What's Up Wednesday
Hello Friends,
*Waves* I hope this finds you all having a marvelous end of your summer.
Here's what's going on in my world, WUW-style.
WHAT I'M READING:
To be honest, I've started reading a bunch of books this week and quit most of them. I guess I'm in a bit of a reading slump. But since my last post (a couple/few weeks ago) there have a been a few books I made it through and LOVED:
CHARM & STRANGE by Stephanie Kuehn (a small YA book that packs a big quirky punch, told from a male POV...and I won't say much else about it, because it's unique and I don't want to ruin the surprise of it.)
The DREAM THIEVES by Maggie Stiefvater (lovely prose, as you'd expect, this second book in the YA Raven Boys series was also a nice adventure. This was an ARC (THANK YOU, Sarah Goldberg), but you'll be able to get it in mid-Sept., and I do recommend this series.)
84, CHARING CROSS ROAD by Helene Hanff a very charming little NF book first published in 1970. It's a thin little book of letters sent back and forth for 20 years between Helen, a free-lance writer and avid reader/book lover living in Brooklyn NY, and a book dealer in London during wartime and well beyond (late 40's-late 60s). It's a very fast read, full of humor and serious book love and man, did it gave me ALL THE FEELS. No wonder it is still in print after all these years. I highly rec.
WHAT I'M WRITING:
Well, I've been so super busy this week I haven't had time to write anything except notes in a notebook (for I am getting ready to start a SNI in earnest), and so nothing big to report here. But, I *am* excited about this shiny new idea. (it's the same SNI I've talked about, the one I was trying to put off while I SHOULD be working on revisions. And I have put it off---though not done as much with the revisions as I should've, due to being way too busy lately---but now SNI's time has come. And so, starting next week, I shall go forth and write shiny new words!) (but also, I will be working on revisions.) (maybe.) (slacker Lola is a slacker)
WHAT'S INSPIRING ME RIGHT NOW:
THIS SONG. OMG THIS SONG. This will be The Song of SNI. (FYI, it isn't on spotify, sadly)
What's up with YOU? How was YOUR WEEK?
Love,

About Me

- Lola Sharp
- My name is Lola. (I'm not a showgirl) Yes, L-O-L-A Lola. It's the least of my worries. Let's move on, shall we? This blog is mostly about my misadventures on the journey to publication and beyond. My passion for lush prose, quirky characters, art, music, literature, performing arts and anything creative will be a major theme here. This journey of mine will not always be pretty. Much like rubbernecking a train wreck, I know sometimes you just can't help but look at the carnage that is often my life. So strap on your neck brace, helmet and 5-point harness and come along for the ride! Licentia poetica.

Wait...summer's almost OVER??? NOOOOO.....!!!
Gorgeous song! I had to look up the lyrics. Love finding new musicians for my deaf ears.
I've been doing the note writing all week as well. All of sudden summer has collapsed into fall. (Hugs)Indigo
Looks like you've found loads of great reads, if not as much time as you'd like to write. My crit group has me knuckling down hard on finishing my current project. For me, the outside pressure get me productive more than anything else.
Hey, stranger! It's good to hear from you. Thanks for sharing that song, by the way. I'm always on the look out for new tunes and artists. I will investigate this one further...
Not much going on with me. I'm not a fan of summer, so I am enjoying the cooler mornings here in Central California - even though it will continue to be hot here until All Hallow's Eve. *sigh*
I'm still just working too many hours (11) and trying to be a writer with the couple free hours I have each day. It's tough, but we're all in the same boat, aren't we?
Take care of yourself. *waves*

Yay for SNIs! I have a few bubbling their way to the forefront of my brain. I'm hoping to start writing one of them in November, but I'm enjoying the current WiP so much that I haven't really thought too too much about it. And what great reads! I can't wait for DREAM THIEVES!!!
Have a great week!
Hooray for SNIs! Best of luck getting yours read to go :D
I can not wait to get my hands on The Dream Thieves - I loved the first book!
Enjoy the SNI :)
That song is lovely! And yay for SNIs! I get inspired when I read about my friends getting all excited about a new idea... I hope it pans out for you and continues to keep your mind busy. I'm currently reading THE DREAM THIEVES (awesome so far!) and I can't wait to read CHARM AND STRANGE -- more so now, knowing that you enjoyed it.
Have a great week, Lola!
You are a reading machine!
I'm so excited to read The Dream Thieves! And yay for shiny new ideas! :)
Oooh, I love that moment before you start a SNI. It's so pretty and pristine and not at all as frustrating like SNIs can be after they turn into WIPs. Good luck!!
Also, that song is beautiful. Too bad it's not on Spotify... Thanks for the introduction to it.
All these people reading THE DREAM THIEVES! So, so envious of you! I'm happy to hear that it was good. :-) Also happy to hear that you're taking the plunge with your SNI. I love SNIs so much. Hope you have lots of fun with it. Have a great week, Lola!:-)
What a beautiful song! Thank you for sharing.
Also, yay that you get to work on your SNI! Is this the one you chatted with me about?
I also finished Charm & Strange recently. What an amazing little book. I really enjoyed it. And Dream Thieves was obviously fantastic. We must chat about both of these! I have Quintana of Charyn sitting on my table that I need to get to soon...
Wow--more Maggie Stiefvater love! I really need to read something of hers soon.
Notes in a notebook counts for writing--especially if it's for an SNI. I don't like to work on any new ideas until the current idea is written and revised. However, I might make an exception to write a short story. I'm in the midst of revisions, but I could do with getting at least one or two short stories down.
All the best with the revisions and the SNI, Lola! :D
beautiful song! And i can't wait to read The Dream Thieves!
Love working on SNIs. But I have a ton of stuff to do before I can get to mine. :-)
I'm like, so late. I had a great weekend, though! WorldCon was a blast.
Yay for shiny new ideas!!! I have a few, and I sort of just clutch them close and pet them neurotically because I have to write this sequel first.
Everyone seems to be reading and loving The Dream Thieves. I haven't even read The Raven Boys yet. *hangs head*
