Random Bits of Randomness

1) I've been working on revisions of novel #3 and will be spotty around the interwebs the next few weeks as I finish polishing it to hand off to my brilliant CPs.

2) I  have a shiny new header and pages/tabs above (courtesy of Carolyn) (didn't she do a lovely job?!), but the pages are empty. I'll be working on them, too, over the next few days. Still tinkering, with the help of friends, as I'm technologically challenged. (aren't our blogs always a work in progress?) (I need to learn HTML) (that's never gonna happen) (I hate using the word 'never') (but perhaps in this case it will work some kind of reverse psychology magic on me thus insuring I actually make the time to learn it) (please, who am I kidding?)

3) We're getting pummeled with snow here in NJ. This should put me in a cozy writing zone, but the Kid and Husband are home due to massive storm. Thus, I *might* treat myself and go the lazy route, flop on the couch and have me a viewing marathon watching this:

I love Captain Tightpants
Or maybe this:
I also love Mick
4) It appears I'm in the mood to watch shows that only lasted one season. But, in both cases, I am of the opinion that those TV execs should be flayed.

5) There were some pretty raunchy images for 'flayed'. I spared you, dear friends.

6) I am apparently the place blog awards go to die. It's not that I'm ungrateful, for I truly am honored. I am just ridiculously busy and behind on everything.

But here are links to some of the generous and thoughtful writer friends who have recently awarded me, please give them a visit:

I owe a few more people, but I'll do them in my next post.

7) Remember over the summer when my daughter brought home this bony, sickly, scrawny stray kitten?

Well, she's a 6-month-old fat lazy cow of a cat now and looks like this:

8) Did you know that when a book is open the right page is called a recto and the left page (or flip side of the recto) is called the verso? Rectos are always odd-numbered, versos always even-numbered.

9) ♡ you. I'm so grateful to be a writer in this century, where I have access to all of you. Thanks for being in my life.

10) Please tell me how your writing is going. What's new with you?

What a lovely post! I'm guilty of the same thing - letting the blog awards collect dust while I try to figure out intersting things about myself to post *scratches head*

Good luck polishing WIP:)

Cherie Reich said...

Welcome back! I love the new look to your blog. Good luck with revisions. I've been doing the same thing lately with my second novel. And, the kitty is so cute!

Kelly said...

Great new look, Lola!
Your kitten is now a very pretty kitty!! Enjoy the snow day. It's good just to let things be and chill out once in a while. I need to allow myself to just relax and watch a movie sometimes. Actually I could have yesterday but I opted for a much needed nap! :)
Good luck with polishing up the manuscript!!!

L.A. Colvin said...

Number 8 is wild. I didn't know that. Don't you love it when your kids bring home stray kittens. Only to learn it has ringworms. Then you get to spend way too much money at the vets. Then to top it all off you are the only one who gets ring worm from the kitten after a solid month of giving him daily baths with the 50 dollar shamppo. UHH anyway I hope youget all the things done you want to. ;)

Candyland said...

I *get* being busy! Love the new look! And kitty is still cuter than my a-holes.

Kathryn Packer Roberts said...

Sounds like we're in much the same spot. Good luck with the revisions! And the fam! =)

Misha said...

Looove the new look!

And I agree that the execs should be flayed. Although I liked Joseph Constan more than Mick.

Good luck with the revisions!

Christine Danek said...

Love the new header. The snow stinks. We are getting pummeled too. PA. Not much going on here. Trying so hard to revise WiP#1, write WiP#3 and WiP#4--they are my new ideas and they are so tempting.

mshatch said...

I like the new header; having pages in addition to posts fun. And I loved Firefly. It was a great show, kind of like the Dresden files which I think only lasted one season. loved your post :)

Jen Daiker said...

I love the new look you've got going on!!!! Excellent header (and you know I love to make headers!)!

The kitty is adorable! Not starved anymore that's for sure!

Summer Frey said...

Bitty is so cute! She looks like there's some American Shorthair in there, somewhere.

I love orange tabbies. :)

Random brain spewing is the best. I like to see other people dumping their mind vomit as I like to.

Oh, and HTML's a breeze. I've been at it for 14 years. If you think about it as beginning something and ending it, you're set.

Meredith said...

Yay for Moonlight! I loved that series--so sad it was cancelled! I'm deep in revisions, too. But it will be over soon!

Alison Stevens said...

You can definitely learn HTML. As Kris says, it's beginning and ending each thing you post. And Blogger makes it easier, too.

Thanks for sharing your random thoughts--these were great!

kar_took said...

Loving the new look. I love re-designing my blog (I did it accidently last time and have no idea how I managed it). I was more of a Blood Ties fan than Moonlight fan. They were on the same time over here, so I had to choose.

Lookis like you are getting all the snow we had last month. Enjoy it before you get sick of the sight of the stuff. Interestingly new writing for me is set in the snow of December/January that we had. Funny the things which inspire you.

Good luck with the revisions!

Hannah Kincade said...

I love the new format!! I've been thinking about changing mine...again. hahaha! Something simple but I love my candle.

I lurve Firefly!! I just finished with a Farscape rewatch. LOVE IT SO SO MUCH! *tears*

Sarah said...

Yay! Kittens and Firefly! Good post. :)

I took a couple HTML classes and then managed to forget everything I'd learned. Now I use templates to design things. I'm such a sham.

Talli Roland said...

I thought *I* was the place where blog awards went to die!

Love the new lok, by the way. And the kitty photos!

Carol Riggs said...

Oh yes! Nice look, love the black and gray and red. Great design (tho it took a while on my end to load initially). Enjoy your massive storm and the cozy writing zone! (or viewing marathon, whichever you go with)

Rachel Searles said...

It is my secret shame that I have yet to watch Firefly! I love Nathan Fillion, and I'm so looking forward to it...just need to find the time!

Sarah Ahiers (Falen) said...

let's get serious here. They should really just make a channel on cable that's the firefly channel. They would just play the show and the movie continuously. It would be full of win.
As for my writing, i will be looking for Betas next week, so it's going well!
Good luck with your WIP!

Kittie Howard said...

A beautiful post, Lola! Also love the new look (but also thought the old look was nice.) Yes, yes, I remembered the kitten. Ohhhh, what a plump, pretty cat you've got. Love the eyes!

Prepare for more snow...I'm below you in Virginia...we're projected to get 4-7 inches (beginning this afternoon and thru nite) before the storm heads north.

Stay warm, enjoy those flicks!

Abby Minard said...

Oh man, more snow? And I LOVE Firefly (and Serenity)!! I'm actually watching my season 4 of Buffy because I was in the mood.

My revisions are going slowly, but steady (for me, anyway). Steady meaning I'm actually doing revisions on the weekends.

Good luck with yours! And congrats on the award!

Anne Gallagher said...

I watch Sense & Sensibility, P&P, Persuasion, continuously. If I had automatic replay on my DVD player I'd be in heaven.

I'm actually on hiatus from the blog, supposed to be in revisions. I am, but I needed a break. It's snowing again and I'm depressed.

Working on revisions for two books and writing a third. I must be out of my mind.

Heather said...

Ah revision limbo, it can be such a lonely place to be! Firefly is my absolute favorite show of all time besides Buffy and I agree the execs should be flayed! It died long before it's time. And wow, that kitty grew FAST!

M Pax said...

Well, you probably already know my love of Firefly. Siigh. Still miss it. Like Anne G. I engoy a Jane Austen marathon, too. If I watch too much though, all my characters suddenly have English accents.

What a beautiful cat! Although the image made Nini vacate my lap in an offended huff.

Good luck on the WIP.

Kari Marie said...

Good luck with prepping your WIP for crit. I loved Moonlight. Mick was yummy. I haven't seen firefly, but in my bloggy travels, I've seen it referenced and praised so much I'm going to add it to the Netflix list.

Anonymous said...

Aww, I miss Moonlight. Sexy vampires are immortal, they cannot be killed by big shot execs (at least not in my heart).

Anyway, this is a fantastic blog you have here! I’m so glad you stopped by my blog, cuz now I know about yours and can come back again and again! *squee* <- - Can you tell I love finding new friends?

Hmm, my writing? I’m doing pretty good actually, recovering from ‘writer’s block’ over Christmas. I’m 30,000 into a book with an approx ending of 85/90k, so not bad considering and since I’m doing good on my daily word count, I’m hoping to be done soon and on to the next book in my historical/fantasy series.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

I recommend a marathon of Firefly followed by the movie Serenity!

Michelle said...

RECTO VERSO awesome! What a handy thing to know!

I'm a new follower here (thanks for following my blog also! <3). I hope you pull out of this busy time unscathed!!

I am currently writing TWO different WIPS and it is all radical awesomeness.

Sara B. Larson said...

Cute (big!) kitty! :)

Enjoy your marathon of Firefly. It was sad it was only one season. :(

I am working on a new WIP, it's going slowly, but hopefully will be a good one...

Nicole Zoltack said...

Getting tons of snow here too.

I plan on adding some more pages to my blog but haven't gotten to it yet. Plan on doing that next month.

I also need to accept several blog awards... I don't even want to say how long I've been sitting on some. Whoops!

Old Kitty said...

I love your kitty all grown up and beautiful!!!

I love your new look blog - all lovely and sparkly and fabulous!!

I love that you are busy editing your novel and telling me new words like recto and verso!!!!!

Now please stay safe and warm with all the snow over there!!!

All is bright and breezy and fuzzy warm here in blogworld!!

Take care

Love the post, and thx for doing what you do.

My work is going slow, and the out-look is even slower, but its moving along.

Recto-verso, eh? interesting~ :o) <3

Your cat looks so cute! Glad it's doing better now.

Love the new layout and tabs. It looks very stylish!

I watched Serenity a couple of times over the weekend. I too love Captain Tightpants.

Jim Murdoch said...

Just finished novel #5. By 'finished' I mean that I'm now waiting on my wife reading it and depending on what she says I may be a) jumping for joy, b) rewriting like crazy or c) curled up in a ball and swearing I'll never write anything ever again.

Julie said...

That's so funny! I've just finished watching the Firefly sorta season over again (for the zillionth time). And I agree with the flaying of execs for both those shows... and I still haven't gotten completely over the cancellation of My So Called Life all those years ago. (Yes, I hold a grudge... a lot when it comes to people taking away great television shows. Okay, add Angel to that list, too.)

Inspirational Firefly Quote for the Day:

Jayne: "Do you know what the chain of command is here? It's the chain I go get and beat you with to show you who's in command."

Carolyn V. said...

Aw! Great post Lola! Loved Firefly. You have great taste!

Adriana Noir said...

Your posts are always so visual and fun to read, Lola! Best of luck to you with the editing. I'm halfway through mine and know that ugly phase looms in the not too distant future! Loved the info about lefties and righties...I never knew that!

Looks like you did a wonderful job with the kitty. She's adorable!

Cynthia Chapman Willis said...

What a beautiful and lucky kitty-cat! And what a fabulous post. Oh yes, I hear you about the snow (sharing the state with you). It's a good day to snuggle up with a few favorites--after all the shoveling.

Tara said...

Nice place :)

Holy, um, cow, Kitty! What a difference a little love made.

TerryLynnJohnson said...

wow! can't believe I've just discovered your blog. And I'm not just saying that because of the scenery - I also vote for severe flaying. Severe! Two of the best shows EVER.

Hart Johnson said...

I wish we'd get enough snow to shut us down for a few days... I'd like to be sitting there watching those serieses (what's the plural of series? seri?) with you! And I LUFFF your kitty. i think she's fabulous. Then, I even think my evil kitty that hunts us is fabulous.

Theresa Milstein said...

Hi, Lola! I like your new look.

I wish you the best with WIP #3.

That's one sweet award. I have to give out awards one of these days. Like you, if I knew more about HTML, I could properly create one. I've written the post and everything. I just need the award.

I just wrote and submitted a short story. I was going to use this snow day to write or query, so I've only blogged and shoveled so far. Maybe soon...

Regina said...

I love randomness. It is part of life. Anyway, I am working on a few of my own projects as well. Best wishes.

Fresh new look to you blog, Lola.

Kitty has grown... Adorable.

Thanks for the shout out, it gave me the warm fuzzies... I need them, it's freezing here in Chicago.

Good luck on the polishing I am doing the same.

Have a great weekend.

Love your new layout! Best of luck on revisions, sweetie. I'm back at my wip, doing things differently but determined to finish. Ugh.

Happy weekend!

Seriously, are you guys not the most gorgeous bunch of people?!

You guys are SHINY.

Thank you for taking the time to visit me.

Please have the happiest of weekends!

Carolina Valdez Miller said...

So good to see you around, sweet Lola, even if it's just in and out. I'll be taking an Internet break here next week, with only the occasional post until I finish the first draft of a new ms--so I understand! Congrats on your awards. Don't feel bad not passing them on. I figure awards should be like any other gift--come with no strings attached. Thank you for sparing us with Flayed! Eek! I can only imagine.

Your kitty is looking way too adorable for words. Although your description was hilarious.

Will talk to you soon, chickie!

Carolina Valdez Miller said...

I forget to say--I'm digging the new look!! Nicely done! I need to redo mine, too.

TechnoBabe said...

The cat is beautiful. It always warms my heart to see a pet find a family to become part of and they all thrive.

Janet Johnson said...

I did not know that about recto-verso. Interesting!

And I'm with you on HTML. I tell myself I want to learn, but I really don't. I just want someone to make my blog pretty for me. :) And maybe someday I'll add pages like you!

Linda G. said...

LOVE your random. :)

Adorable kitty. Firefly and Moonlight: I heartily approve. I did know recto and verso, but can't remember where I first learned it.

Hope you're having a glorious weekend...and that you're not out shoveling. :)

Lynda Young said...

lol, I never knew that about book pages.

And I LOVE the cat. So gorgeous.

...your spirit is addicting, Lola!

Not sure of your taste of television, however;)

Keep hammering the keys, sweetheart. Currently on my final read/edit, the galley process well under way, a late spring release now within reach:)

Have a great week,

I loved Moonlight! Sadly, I didn't know about it while it was on the air. I just found out about the show a couple of years ago, and once I watched the first season I was so sad. I can't believe they canceled it! Figures...

Anonymous said...

I love the new look.

This reminds me that I'm hoarding blog awards. But I'll try to pass them along soon.

Lola Sharp said...

Elliot, no you di-ent! Are you telling me you don't love Firefly??? Wazzz wrong with you?

Kim, I know. The Aussie actor that plays Mick, I love him like whoa. So pretty he is. (I would have dumped that DA and jumped on Mick in a hot second ;)

Thanks, friends, for stopping by. You are loved and appreciated.

Talei said...

Ooh Moonlight looks hot! I mean, really appealing, ahem. How come I've only just heard it this show now? ;)

Good luck with your edits Lola! And its very lovely knowing you in this writing century.

Demitria said...

I loved Firefly! Never caught Moonlight though.

Karen Amanda Hooper said...

I just heard about Firefly from another writer friend a few days ago. I'm gonna have to watch it.

Happy editing! Stay warm up there and make a snow angel for me. I don't get to make those anymore down here in FL.

The Words Crafter said...

I'm not sure where to start! Good luck with your revisions. That cat is looking beautiful and healthy. My Roo is finally, FINALLY healthy and she's grown like crazy! I love Firefly and I, too, am the place blog awards go to die. This month has been brutal. Interesting about the book pages; I didn't know that.

Hope you get a lot done and enjoy the snow!

Paul Greci said...

I've thought of my blog as the place blog awards die, too.

And figuring out the techy stuff...I'm pretty much a luddite.
I know how to click a mouse, now what to click on...

Sarah said...

Hi Lola! I am going to start writing my next book, but have two ideas competing. Do I go with the story that is plotted out or do I go with the character that tugs on me to be written into existence? I don't know either.

Anita said...

What a freakin fabulous post! Where have you been all my blog life?

Dawn Simon said...

Awesome post! It was fun to read! The kitten who became a cat is adorable!

My writing is going well. Not much new with me, BUT I got a Nook for Christmas. I love it!

Good luck with those revisions!!

Draven Ames said...

So now writers won't say 'See ya on the flip side.' They will say, 'See ya on the recto.'

Great list here. Good luck with the edits, great new headers and set up. The cat is getting huge. Good list of writers. I'll try to check some out.

Lola Sharp said...

Hahaha...Drevin, you're a genius. I love it. (though, it does almost sound kinda gross, no?)

Thanks everyone, for stopping by. I'm still trying to get by all of your blogs.

Hello, Lola!

Yesterday I began "THE GREAT SURGERY of 2011" (read: implementing my revision triage notes.) I hope I make it out alive.

I'm intrigued by Moonlight ...

I love randomness!
Your cat is adorable. We have a grey tabby and she was not even 2 pounds when we brought her home, now her belly hangs down and she lounges around soaking up the sun all day! I just started a new thriller, I am only 20 pages in and I love it. I think it is one of the best story lines I have ever come up with. I will keep u posted!

Elana Johnson said...

I wish you the best with your revisions. And I just got Netflix and Firefly is on it! Yay! Now I can finally watch it and get in the conversations with everyone else.

I'm out of vodka, and I'm not replacing it until I hit 20k on my novel. That's what's new with me.

I may be a little cranky these days. Don't mind me.

Carolina Valdez Miller said...

Just wanted to say hey, and miss you and all that good stuff. Hope the revision is going well for you!! I'm unplugging as well, hopefully for the rest of the day. When there's work to be done, and all that jazz...

Talk to you soon, sweets.

Serenissima said...

Hope you went with Firefly. Oh why, oh why, oh why was it brutally cancelled after one season? Whenever I get too nostalgic for it, I go listen to the theme song on Youtube. Pathetic, I know, but I really loved that show.

Mark Noce said...

Big +1 for listing Firefly! Awesome:)

roxy said...

I'm with you on the revisions. I don't like revising much. Not only is it hard to do, but it also cuts into my fun social time. Your blog looks beautiful and interesting. (Yikes. I still can't figure out how to add to my sidebar!) Keep up the good, difficult work, Lola. We're cheering for you.

I wish I knew HMTL codes too. Heck, I can't remember the sequence of letters never mind how to actually write and understand the code. ;)

Blog awards go to my blog to die too. I never have time to post them. :P

Happy editing!

Gina Blechman said...

You have the most adorable cat EVER. (Well, at least, the second most adorable. My lovely kitty always comes first.) I also whole-heartedly agree that Moonlight should never have been cancelled. It was an excellent show. Funny thing is, as gorgeous as Alex O'Laughlin (spelling?) is none of his shows seem to last more than a season.
