Where I (sometimes) Write and Other Stuff...Randomized
Good Monday morning,
1) I JUST woke up. I have eye boogies still, but I did go grab my life source--> coffee.
2) Unlike some of you, I do not/did not begin Nano at midnight...but I was up late. After the trick or treaters/candy giving gig, we watched the PBS Sherlock Holmes (in the 21st century) (SO good!) Then I read until the wee hours.
3) Now I MUST write this post, because I am committed to my good friend (and she's one of my CPs...I'll love her and squeeze her and never let her go) Summer's 'Show Your Writing Space' BlogFest.
So here's the thing...I have a laptop.
I write all over the place/anywhere/everywhere: our couch, the lawn chair out back, my bed.
And, I have my very own pretty office with a big wrap around desk and bookshelves in the room next to our master bedroom.
But I NEVER write in there.
Therefore, it would be a lie to cheat and show you my lovely, decorated office.
The truth is 75% of my writing gets done in an ugly spare bedroom. The only room in the house I've not decorated. I'm embarrassed to show it to you, but aside from my bed at night, it's where most of my writing magic really happens. So...you get the ugly truth:

It's not even a desk...it's a card table. *sigh* Note the pizza delivery menu on the white board.
![]() |
Yes, that's Schroeder as the Phantom...and my devil horn barrettes. But do you also see Sarah's (Falen) business card (the pretty skull) and Sara McClung's gorgeous card?

The felt zombies book is where I'm getting the 'recipes' and inspiration to make my special stuffed felt zombies...that I'll be giving away as prizes to my bloggy friends soon.

Yeah, I like hangin' with my homies. And, yes, my Magic 8-Ball is always right.
4) Speaking of yummy friends named Sara:
The lovely and delightful Sara B. Larson is having a CONTEST to celebrate 200+ followers.
One of the prize choices is a 10 page critique...but ALL of the choices include Swedish chocolate! You will love her and her blog, so please go visit her, enter, and tell her I say hello, give her *hugs* from me.
5) Susan Fields is also having a terrific contest...she's giving away her top 5 favorite books on writing!
6) For all my Nano-Buddies (no, I haven't even opened a doc for nano-project yet...but as soon as I hit publish on this post I will eat breakfast, refill the coffee mug, crawl into the above cave, open up a shiny new word.doc and let 'er rip!) (Oh, crap...I lie!) (I will visit the blogfest peeps and THEN commence the Nano-action)...I leave you with this:
Have a fabulous day, friends!
Love,
Lola
Lola
PS~ I slapped this puppy up fast, so , as per usual, please excuse the typos and nonsensical nature of this post. (and I really need to pee, so I rushed!) (TMI?)

About Me
- Lola Sharp
- My name is Lola. (I'm not a showgirl) Yes, L-O-L-A Lola. It's the least of my worries. Let's move on, shall we? This blog is mostly about my misadventures on the journey to publication and beyond. My passion for lush prose, quirky characters, art, music, literature, performing arts and anything creative will be a major theme here. This journey of mine will not always be pretty. Much like rubbernecking a train wreck, I know sometimes you just can't help but look at the carnage that is often my life. So strap on your neck brace, helmet and 5-point harness and come along for the ride! Licentia poetica.

Thank you for the peek into your writing space! It is good to see that we don't need the perfect space for the magic to happen!
Your writing space looks great. Thanks for the sneak peek.
Good luck with NaNo!
OMG, Lola -- that video is awesome!!
I loved seeing your writing spaces. Your house is so warm and funky and artsy -- I want to move in!
Good luck with NaNo, sweets!!
((hugs)) Nicole
Beauty, and exactly what I would have pictured for Lola's writing area.
Here-and-there, everywhere, wherever the bug hits you and you get to tapping and off you go.
I love the "Timeline" on your white board. It looks just like mine!
All right, off we go and... er... BLANK!
Total Writer's Constipation.
Might as well have asked me the cube root of pie over i, oh and don't forget the plot, gotta have one of those.

Awwwwww it's a beautiful writing space!! I love that you have all your friends' wonderful cards and pressies all near you!! That's really nice!! Thanks for sharing these pics!!
I'm at work so I can't play the clip but I will the moment I get home!
AND YAY!!!!!!! I'm so so sos os so so glad Sherlock Holmes for the 21st century is now being shown there!! This was one of my MUST SEE telly this year!! I loved it and I TOTALLY LOVE BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH!! He rocks!
Take care
x
Nice post! Like the zombies. Need me some zombies.
TMI? Yeah. But who cares when it's just us friends, right? :D
Catch me if you can!
I love your writing spaces! Who are we to argue with where our muse wants to get busy, anyway?
Best of luck with NaNo! May your fingers fly. :)
OMG, I am so jealous of your writing space!! Good luck with NaNo! I wish I was doing it but I will be sending a lot of encouragement your way :)
Really thought you said you slapped a puppy to get this post up. And was horrified. But am now relieved!
Best of luck during NaNo! I'm not participating but I am writing. I started my new novel a few weeks ago. I just couldn't wait! I love your office, errr, both of them?! I have a beautiful office too and I use the kitchen table so don't feel bad!
A white board is an EXCELLENT idea! And I wouldn't want something fussy and decorated... then again, none of my house is fussy and decorated... it sort of goes against my grain...
I love all the cool stuff you have filling your writing space!
Like you, I have a lap top, and although in the evenings you'll find me in the recliner in the living room, during the day I try to stay in my office. :-)
Good luck during NaNo! If you'd like to be my writing buddy, I'm Lady Cat over there.
Oh crumbs! Your writing space is filled with gorgeousness whereas mine is a real mess!
I loved the Sherlock programs too.
Good luck with Nano!
Your writing space is awesome--I love the corkboard! I need one of those :) Good luck with NaNo!
I never write in my office either. Sigh. Mostly my kitchen table... I LOVE the NaNo song. It's going to be stuck in my head all day.
I love that you hve an office, but took over the spare bedroom with all your writing stuff too. Haha!
By the way, I gave you an award on my blog.
before i got my desk, i just used an old Ikea kitchen table and it was awesome. Sometimes tables just rock.
also SQUEE! that you pinned my card up!
((hugs))
You go Lola! I LOVE that song.
That's some decked out card table! (heehee) Love it! Good luck with NaNo! :D
Psssh. Nothing at all like the barren wasteland I imagined due to your description. :) I think it's pretty!
I don't miss my laptop days, though I'll still squint at the netbook in bed sometimes.
I haven't touched a document either yet...but there's still 11 hours left!
I love the trinkets and baubles on your board. And your Star Wars homies. And the 8 ball...
Good luck on Nano!
I agree with Lydia... I love all the trinkets and baubles and pretty things you have everywhere. It makes me wish I kept more of those things (I only keep some because I have no drawers on my desk and I can't hang them on my walls because my map needs to stand alone in all of its awesomeness!)
I wish I had a magic eight ball. And SCHROEDER + Phantom = BEST.THING.EVER!!!!
No worries about not starting NaNo... You'll get er done.
What a great space! It looks so cozy... I love the sneak peek. Thank you!
That was awesome. Have you ever thought about directing/producing music videos?
OK, cute space, despite the fact that you say it is undecorated, but more to the point--Sherlock Holmes on Masterpiece Theatre! Modern Day! (Insert school girl squee!) I was totally watching, too. And I'll be watching it again this week, online. Yay!
I love your studio. And it's so neat. I would never be able to show a picture of my writing space on line.
Ha ha, what a funny song. Thanks for the shout-out! :)
Good luck with NaNoWriMo! I'm sure you'll kill it. :D
Ha! I re-read I slapped this puppy up so fast..." several times thinking you were talking about an actual puppy. I'm tired:/
my writing space is pretty much the living room
Your space has a lot of personality! It's so much more than a card table!
Those pics don't look ugly to me at all. It must be prettier than you think if you're able to get writing done in there.
Also, I've been watching 'Sherlock' on PBS too! I love it! The chemistry between the two main actors is fantastic and the humour has been rolling all over the floor.
Jai
Your writing space rocks! I didn't realize it was a card table at all. Love the pics and all the goodies. Definitely a great, creative space.
Have a fantastic week!
What a fun writing space. Very stimulating.
omg! Love your space!! I have that same exact journal that the Star Wars characters are chillin on! *high five*
Very very cool! I want a white board!! (might steal one from the office...hmm...*hatches evil plan*) ; )
...fairly certain I spotted wisps of smoke rising from that laptop of yours...TooMuchWriMo:)
Good luck Lola!
EL
I think your writing space is adorable! I love the randomness of everyone's spaces.
Oh, I love your space! It's creative and eclectic and very artsy, which must be inspiring.
As for the pizza menu, our favorite place recognizes Honey's number as soon as he dials!
I didn't start nano last night, either. I didn't start until about 2:45 this afternoon! Ah well...
Good luck!
Oh, Lola, your writing space looks so....divine!!! That's the only word I can use to describe it!!! :) I love it! Thanks for giving us a peek! :)
Love your workspace! How quirky! A card table! Love your ideas board, and hey, writing is a hungry job! That pizza delivery menu might just come in handy!
Love, love, love the video! And thanks for sharing the writing space photos - the pizza delivery menu is a must-have!
Loved the writing space... the board of creativity rocks my socks off... and the video... the video ROCKS!
Love your writing space! I don't have anything that elaborate... sad I know. Everything is on my laptop and that's it!!
Hope you're smoking up the keyboard by now with some amazing words!!! :)
Awesome stuff there...
FANTASTIC video! Loved it, really, and I am so not doing NANO! Thanks for a huge morning smile!
Your writing space is really cute! Love it.
My writing space is my lap. LOL. I take it wherever I go (positive), but it's sadly lacking in storage space (negative).
;)
All my eyes want to see is that gorgeous lamp! Even your "clutter" has style. :)
I love the video. And I love your writing space; it's very colorful. I usually don't write at home because I have a spider problem (not my fault!), and it's hard to write when I keep shrieking every time I see a spider.
Love the video - and your workspace. I don't have a dedicated room or anything - just a messy corner of the living room right beside the couch. So exciting, but it works for me :)
Good luck on nano! :)
I like thinking of you at that card table with special, inspiring things all around you. I can see that it is your place, shut away from the world. Loved the video clip. It makes me feel like I'm part of an awesome group of writers. Great post, Lola. Happy NaNoWriMo.
Cool writing space! I loved the pictures!
LOL at the video. :D
When I used to work on the laptop, I did all my writing on the couch. But your space is very fun!
Oh I so want to watch that new version of Sherlock Holmes...
But where I am I will most likely bump into it in two or so years...
Good luck with NaNo.
:-)
Ha! I love the honesty. I think your writing space is awesome - mine is just the sofa or the bed.
Oh, come on. You know that's not really your writing space. I happen to know you're serving time at the moment, but nice try.
I love your writing space! It's awesome! I still either at my table or on my couch. Depending if I want to get something done, or just fall asleep. =) Good luck with NaNo!
I love seeing your writing space. YOu can see mine here: http://scribbleandedit.blogspot.com/2010/09/where-to-write.html
I love your music video. Fab! :O)
Ha! That video was hilarious. "I just realized I have plot holes and my writing really sucks..." ha! I think we've all been there. Great video (especially the part where the punks are singing about her writing), and makes me wish I could do Nano this year! Ah well.
I think your writing space is really cute, Lola! Even if it's not the one you intended to use. I mostly work on my bed or on my daughters bed because she often doesn't sleep in her room. It's just more comfortable. And right now, I'm on my (unmade) bed and my nightstand is covered in Coke Zeros. It's pretty gross actually.
Anyway, good luck with your Nano!! You can do eeeeeet! I want to hear all your progress, k? Email me if you need anything. Love you, girl.
It seems like you're a good decorator. You have all these cute little knick-knacks that add personality. :)
I don't have an official writing space as I type on a laptop a lot too. It's more comfortable being on a bed or a couch than at a desk; just ask my gluteus...
Hey Lola there's an award for you on my blog :O)
You write in an interesting space, looks good to me. We moved a week ago today and I am still getting my area the way I want it. I am in front of a lovely large window and watch the sun on the trees. So far I am liking it.
If I could write as well as you do when you have junk in your morning eyes and have to pee, I would be a writer too.
Lola:
I love seeing people's writing spaces, so thanks for the tour. And thanks for following! I added you too.
Catherine
I love to see where people work/live! :)
Hey Lola, thanks for the follow! Following you back :)
Also, even though you have a card table, I'm jealous of the writing space :D mine is my lap or whatever table-like surface I'm near at the time.
OK, LOLing at "I NEVER write in there." sigh. I dream of having my own office at home... I actually get *paid* to write at home. I have a desk and everything, but no room. Now I'm thinking if I ever got one, I'd probably never use it either...
oh well.
Here's to sweet hook-ups~ :o) <3
My daughter would love all of your little Eiffel Tower pics!
