John, I'm Only Dancing...

Like many of you, I'm in the throes of Nanowrimo.

("Debbie" missed the boat a little bit by not showing mugs of the fuel of life on her desk above...)

Yeah. So, I've been a poor excuse of a blogger or bloggy friend for a while now. Last couple of months I was sequestered in revisions and now I'm all freaky with a new WiP doing Nano.

(I miss you.)

So, Nano. Usually I'm a very fast first-drafter (and a painfully SLOW reviser), but this WiP is based on something I know NOTHING about. Something that must be accurate and well researched prior to writing about it. I had not done any research prior to Nov. 1st., thus, friends, I'm having to research as I write.
I do not like it. Not one bit. I do not like it, it sucks sh!t.
(that's me waxing poetic just for you, friends.)

Hence, my word count is (s)low.

BUT,  miracle of miracles... (cue beam of light coming down from heavenly clouds, rainbows and angels singing)

(actually my heaven/angels look more like this...)

(can you hear the angels singing?)
(also, my heaven has lots of this...)
Now you can really cue the angels!

(okay, really heaven is wherever my husband is...holding chocolate cake)

Where was I? Oh yeah, right, the miracle.

I have a title for this WiP!
I had a title by the end of the first sentence of Ch. 1.  It's a Festivus Miracle I tell you.

Anyway, I apologize for not stopping by to say hello. I feel like the worst friend.

So tell me, please...

How is YOUR writing going?
Any big (or little) news?
Are you sad/shocked that Nathan has left agenting? (I am.)
What's happening in your world?

Jen Daiker said...

Did I tell you I love pictures? Because I love pictures *drools*

I have NaNo fever too... it's been a crazy writing whirlwind but for my first time I had a blast.

Writing went great, finished my NaNo novel (I type fast too)
Revising the first story I wrote now.
No big news, just yet.
Very sad Nathan is leaving.

Matthew Rush said...

This post made me a little uncomfortable. Just kidding. Don't worry about time away from blogging. If you can do NaNo at all you've got my respect!

Tracy said...

Great, do you have any idea how much time I missed "working" because I couldn't stop looking at the pretty first picture. Let us not discuss the delay the subsequent pictures caused.

Don't worry, we're all being pretty crapalicious with the blogs and commenting this month. My WIP is going along surprisingly well so far. This pantser did something a little different and actually worked out a general (very general) outline this time. It seems to be working like a charm...because even in those trixy areas in between plot points I know where I'm trying to get to next. Gosh, it goes so much smoother this way. Who knew?

Falen (Sarah Ahiers) said...

oh man, i am a BIG fan of that guy with the tats. MMMMMMM.

I'm sad that i'll never get a chance to query Nathan. BUT, there are plenty of agents in the sea, and the right agent is the one that wants to sign you

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

On track with NaNo, though might fall behind since I'm participating in a blogfest today. It's all good!

Carolyn V. said...

You go girl! Get that NaNo done. =)

Linda G. said...

*fans self* Is it warm in here?

(Thanks for sharing the eye candy!)

Anne said...

Good luck with the rest of NaNo! I knew I wouldn't have time this year but there is always next.

Jai Joshi said...

No big news from me although it's nice to see you back blogging. That pic of chocolate cake looks gorgeous!

Ben said...

That has to be the strangest blog I have ever read. I like it.

Talli Roland said...

Love love LOVE the photos! Especially the chocolate cake. *slurp*

All's good over here! :)

Sara McClung ♥ said...

mmmmmmmm those pictures.... *drools*

I... um... I have something to say but first I need to study the pics some more

Oh, that's right! Go you with your writing!!

I don't have much news, except I'm cheating even more on NaNo now because I'm working on two WIPs, but the new one seriously flooded into me and I couldn't not start on it... It's contemp of all things! And I'm loving the change of pace from fantasy :)

Janet Johnson said...

Congrats on finding a title so soon! I'm horrible with those. Horrible.

Good luck with the writing! I'm not doing NaNo, but admire all you crazies . . . I mean people who are. ;)

Teri Anne Stanley said...

Oh, Ink-Boy, Oh Ink-Boy! Here, honey! come get in the tub with Eric and me!

Shannon Whitney Messenger said...

Aw, I know exactly what you mean--I haven't been blog hopping much myself. But...Hi! Glad to see all is well in your world. Good luck with NaNo!

And now I'm going to waste an inordinate amount of time scrolling back up to ogle your pictures. ;)

Nicole Zoltack said...

Working on Nano, nearly back on track after basically not writing for two days because of being sick.

Hooked up with a new awesome beta reader!

Definitely saddened that Nathan left the agenting world but I wish him the best of luck!

Ann said...

The photo of the chocolate cake just transported me to the happy realm. Aren't you great to be doing Nano and researching as you go! More power to you. I admire all who have committed to the Nano process.

Melissa said...

I'm drooling and my brain my have short circuited a little bit.

I finished nano but am not quite finished my novel so I'm going to keep at it.

Keep writing Lola!

The Golden Eagle said...

It's hard to blog hop when NaNo's going on! The last image can be so true . . . :P It's great to see you posting, though!

Yes, I was sad when I found out Nathan Bransford had left agenting, too. :(

My writing's doing surprisingly well, thanks for asking!

Elaine AM Smith said...

My MG is climbing slowly but it hasn't got as far to go so I'll switch to my other wip once I hit the 30,000 mark, or the end, whichever comes first ;)

JEM said...

Lola! Wow, I didn't actually know about Nathan, thanks for the heads up on that. I think no matter how great you THINK a job is, there's always a point at which you should move on. At least, that's what I've always found :). I've been waiting to move on for about a year now, but I need to get a book finished first! I'm also working on a WIP that requires a vast amount of research, which I find exhausting. Damn period pieces...

Old Kitty said...

I hope when my time comes, my heaven will be just like yours.

YAY!! You have a title!!! Well done you!! GOOD LUCK WITH your nano!!! Take care

Summer said...

Don't ostracize me for saying this, but I don't find Ian very attractive. Mostly because I hated his character on Lost, and his eyebrows need some taming.

But I like that tattoo dude. And book Eric. TV Eric, not so much.

I'm proud of your researching, and I can't wait to read the results! :)

Melissa Gill said...

Oh my. I always dive right on your blog to look at all the lovelies. Debbie's cartoons always crack me up. And I mentally put that choclate cake into tat guys hand and... well, never mind.

I'm glad you found a title for your book. And I hate you a little bit becasue I can't think of a single thing for my WIP.

But on the plus side, it's coming pretty well.

Lisa said...

Congratulations on the title! Having struggled (okay, I'm still struggling) to come up with a title for my first NaNo that's still under revision, I was pleased to have a title for my 2nd one already.

After a couple of days off, I'm back to writing and my word count is where I want it to be.

I miss you, too!

Jemi Fraser said...

I like the pics!!

Getting a title is so exciting!! I've got one (sort of). It works with the story (pretty well), but it's also misleading (pretty much) and makes you think of a different genre (probably). So, I envy you your title! :)

Elliot Grace said...

Geez Lola, where'd you find that pic of me in the tub!?

You perv:)

Congrats on your title and progress! Hope things keep swimming along for you :-)

I miss Eric, too!
And keep up the good work with nano! (I'm not doing nano but determined to finish my mg this month)

Thanks for stopping by, my sweet friends.

I'm honored.

Love you guys.

Thanks for being.

Lee said...

Hi Lola, I'm at fever pitch with NaNoWriMo too and loving it. Unlike my last attempt, I created a nicely detailed outline over the summer, did lots of my research in advance and so I'm moving along at a pretty good clip, especially compared to my last attempt in 07 which ended with word count 0. I love your blog and can't believe I haven't followed it before this. I'm such a pig! I let you follow me months ago and never reciprocated. Your blog is definitely cooler than mine cause you post hunky pictures of chocolate and men! Love it! Lee

I'm not doing NaNo but I'm enjoying hearing all the victory and woe tales. Love the pictures.

Congrats on the title! I too love the pics. And I miss True Blood, too...

I love that coffee postcard; I actually have a copy of it hanging up on my wall. I decided not to do NanoWrimo this year, but I'm jealous of everyone who gets to do it. Maybe next year, though...

Madeleine said...

Hope your love of your nano improves and improves.
I'm blogging more than writing but I have a guest author interview on my blog Friday which is really exciting. :O)

Writing is going well...just like my relationship with food when I'm not dieting--healthy and filling.

Meika said...

Hmm...I may have found the face (and bod) of my MC's love interest. Ian = yummy.

I'm right on track with my NaNo (which saddens me -- I WAS 2 days ahead of schedule!) This NaNo madness is making me squirelly but I love every second of it!

Hart Johnson said...

I'm impressed with any progress at all if you're having to research as you go! I tend to write first, research after, or else the research carries me off on tangents... then again, the genres I write in don't require the research for the STORY so much as the details.

Keep plugging away! I am cruising along well, but keep expecting to hit my wall (I can scale walls, but it does slow me down a lot)

Yes... nice choice of muses...

Heather said...

That post was totally inspiring! *sigh* I must admit, I'm a huge Ian fan...

Susan Tiner said...

Lola, I hope your NaNoWriMo project is going well. Thank you sending hugs via my sister Debbie. I love how her YA novel is coming along!
Hugs back to you, Susan

Darling, you just keep at it! We'll see you when you get back. But if you get a moment, shoot me an email for an update! I'm dying to know how it's going for you! Sending lots of positive thoughts your way. Especially after those drool-worthy pics you posted.

Sara B. Larson said...

Hmmm, what? Oh wait, I was going to comment. Sorry, I was stuck staring at Ian. ;)

Way to go keeping at it! I'm not doing NaNo this time, but am cheering everyone else on. Go Lola! Go Lola! :)

Don't worry if you don't have a lot of time for blogging - we'll always be here for you! And I absolutely hate research. I try to get it all done ahead of time so I don't have to foul up my precious writing time with that obnoxious research (not a very writerly thing to say, I know).

How is YOUR writing going? (slow revisions)

Any big (or little) news? (Nothing new)

Are you sad/shocked that Nathan has left agenting? (I am sad as well)

What's happening in your world? (good friends and even better times, tight money, and cold weather)

Pk Hrezo said...

Ha ha... always love your pics. :)
I'm 20k words into my NaNo WIP and I wish I had more time .... that's totally me in the first cartoon. I hate it when a flow is interrupted.

Anyway, the month is flying by and there's so little time for blogging. :( I miss my bleeps too ... and promise to be back in action full swing come December.

Hello, lovely Lola. Yow, I like the cake and the guy above the cake. *shivers* I'm feeling a little light-headed right now. LOL My word count is at 16,000. Eeep, yes I'm behind. I'll be catching up tonight. =D

I'm a slow first drafter! But thanks to a very inspirational Skype chat this morning with Jessica, I feel excited about my MS. GOD, I can't wait to get through this DRAFT!!!!!

Miss you lots too!

Okay, wait - is that the same guy we discussed the other day? Holy he looks different if it is! And, yes he could pull it off, you're so right! (All but those eyes.)

Um, can I guess your title? WiP 4? Cause you're so clever like that.

Pretty neat about your current wip. Especially since you've managed to work around all that temptation!!!

Happy writing! Or drooling...
