Fantastical Writing Places and an Oath

"If you don’t think there is magic in writing, you probably won’t write anything magical." ~~ Terry Brooks

I love to fantasize about writing in magical places...

perhaps my own Imagination Island...

lovely, yes? What a perfect place to write!

I'd love to have you with me here...

Oh, before we move on, let me fetch my magical fairy dust...ya know, for transport...

I know it's in here somewhere...

A ha....

here we go...

just for you and me...

oh, we might need the magical fireflies to light our way...

off we go...to find our magical writing place...

follow the path...

just a little further... well, we could stop to write under the  tree...

next to the enchanted pond...

I think I could write some interesting things inside this house...

I know I would love writing here...

also, wouldn't it be fun to have any one of these charming little yummies in our backyards ... our own little writing cottage....birds singing...

source: Better Homes and Gardens

also from BHG

But, no matter where we write, the real Magic is ...

TO WRITE!

On that note...

Sweet  10 year old (almost 11!) Lenny from Lenny's World has a writing pledge.. I've taken the Writer's Oath.  Will you?

Love,
Lola

What a great oath! I loved those pictures. Alas my writing space doesn't resemble anything like that!

Travener said...

Ah, I would love to be in some idyllic spot to write...instead of sitting at this worn, 30-year-old kitchen table.

On an island, not even a magical one, would be ideal.

I took the pledge. Do you know if there's a secret handshake to go with it? Shake our pencils twice up and down then stick them on our foreheads maybe. To bring luck, or ideas, or help us out of the slump?

coffeelvnmom said...

Great oath, and those pictures are great! Absolutely loved the first little "writing cottage". And I especially love the title of your blog post - I used the word fantastical the other day and someone thought I'd made it up;)

Beautiful pictures.

I'd love to have an Island - and some fairy dust - to write by. I just took the oath. Thank you.

Lola Sharp said...

Anne,
The first time I read your comment, I thought it said 'stick the pencils IN our heads'!! Ha! I've had plenty of those writing days! he he! ;)

MAN! Is Blogger being BUGGY today...or is it just me???

SOOOO took the oath!

This is excellent. Also, I love these pictures. You totally transported me into a dreamy place. I'm so in love with this post right now.

Fantastic post! Unlike most folks, I need drab and uninteresting surroundings to write my best. I'm much too easily distracted...

I'll take the oath! And I could definitely write inside that castle.

Talei said...

Oh Lola, that first picture drew me in...and then you had to go and throw in the fairy dust, fireflies and all those magical images...I'm still wandering around, could be sometime yet. ;) Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

PS: Please put me down for the retreat.

Jen said...

Can I please come over? This must have taken you forever to get this post together but my dear Lola this could not have come at a better time!!!

I really want to write this evening, it's currently pouring outside my office and I'm hoping that tonight when I get home (after a break from the rain to make for an easier ride home) I'd like it to pour again and I'll revisit this post and get my mind right... imagine myself in my own writing world... let myself fall deeper down the path, beyond the enchanted pond. Get lost for three months.

Shannon Whitney Messenger said...

You find the coolest pictures! And yeah, I know what you mean. It would be awesome to have somewhere cool and magical to write. But once the words get flowing, everything else pales to the magic on the page anyway.

PS: Love Lenny's oath. I've totally taken it. :)

Miss,
This was actually a bit enchanting for me and I must admit in all candor that I don't usually do 'enchanting'

All my best

Old Kitty said...

Oh wonderful and ever so fabulous Lola!!!! Please sprinkle me with fairy dust, lend me a pink paper lantern and lead me on to your magical and fantastical writer's retreats. Sigh.

I wouldn't miss this trip for the world! Thank you.

Take care

Love the writing pledge! My perfect writing spot (in my fantasies where I am not the only person in my home who can do such things as 'finding something') would be a comfy library with a fireplace and a big picture window overlooking a really dramatic oceanscape.

I promise :)

aww. Those pictures will make everything I write feel like magic all day.

Beautiful images.
I think I'd write best in a comfy chair looking out at nature.

TechnoBabe said...

This was a real treat. I like the whole trip. And like you, I could stop and write or read any one of the places along the way.

Sarah said...

le sigh.

p.s. I have lanterns hanging in my trees, down the winding way to my campfire circle. It's not impossible to create beauty in your back yard (thanks to IKEA).

~Nicole Ducleroir~ said...

Sprinkle fairy dust on me and take me with you! The island house with the long boardwalk bridge would be my first choice, but any of these magical places would be perfect. I'll bring the chocolate.

((hugs)) Nicole

I so promise too. :)

I want a corner for writing, a corner for drawing oh... and a dark room. :)

Jeff King said...

I write in the place I'm writing about... I live it, I'm a part of it and hopefully it comes across that way.

Great oath, I'm going to print it out and hand it on my screen.

Thx

Mmmmm, these places are drreeeaaammmy! Thank you for posting them and giving me a place to imagine from.....

Elliot Grace said...

...those pics, and Terry's quote made my day, Lola:)

Especially considering how I'm heading into the sweatshop momentarily.

Gives me something encouraging to dwell on. "Dream a little dream."

I once went on a writers retreat to this ancient mansion in the Welsh countryside in the middle of winter. We were surrounded by forests, dark skies, and snowy country lanes. My room was in the attic and we had midnight feasts with gossip sessions there every night.

It was magical. I didn't even need my fairy dust.

Those pictures are DIVINE! I want to write in the first picture! I really would love to live somewhere away from it all while I write. But then be back in the city for walking the dog in the evening.

I take the writer's oath!

Lisa said...

I take that pledge! Yesterday, I turned the mundane into opportunities to practice the craft. Instead of boring descriptions for some ebay items we're selling, I did J. Peterman like write ups. Silly, but it felt so good.

Thank you for making the magic this morning!

My two favorite pictures are the ones with the trees lit with lanterns. I'm seeing a pattern here.

I'd love to write in Paris, in gardens like at The Louvre.

Oh how I adore this post! And good luck with the writing. I hope you find a special cave in which to perch :)

I need one badly.

Beeyoootiful pictures! To be honest, though, if I were in any of those places I wouldn't be writing, I would be LIVING! Okay, maybe the backyard cottages, those are pretty sweet.

Wow, every single one of these pictures transports you to a different place. I think, if I could, I'd take a tiny cottage in the middle of nowhere. That seems quaint and lovely to me.

And I'm in on the writing challenge!

Thank you for being.

I'm grateful.

I just need a babbling brooke, a lot of green, lush trees, a shady spot and a soft place to sit. And I rarely get even that! I'll have to make due with my kitchen table!

Beautiful pictures, Lola! I love to write on my porch when no one is around and it's just cool enough to have a blanket draped across my lap.

I have Lenny's oath on my sidebar too. He's one special kid! He always brings a smile to my face...

Now I want to build a little hut like that for myself in the back yard. I could, too. Just need some leftover church windows from a demolition somewhere, and I'm golden. Except I'd paint it a manly color, like hunter green or something.

Oh hell. I already have enough building projects lined up. Why did you do this to me Lola? WHYYY!?!?
