It's Friday, I'm in Love...

Happy Friday!

First, a quick reminder...

Today is the LAST DAY to enter my weird and wonderful

Whatever Lola Wants (aka 'Back From Maine') GIVEAWAY!

(Go enter. Winner announced Monday.)

Moving on to other news...

I think I am the only writer/bibliophile in the entire world without a cat.

I admit it, I'm a dog person.

Wanna see the love of my life (husband and kid aside)? She has my heart.

She's a Bichon and she is the sweetest, happiest, cuddliest dog.

So, anyway...

THIS accidentally came home with the Kid a couple days ago:

The Kid named her Pumpkin or Punkin...I call her Itty Bitty Kitteh.  She is TINY.

And I am smitten with her.

EXCEPT...the whole cat box thing is vile.

For such a little creature, she makes a BIG STINK.  Is there a magical cat litter I should be using, 'cause the stuff I bought ain't cutting it??

It appears I'm now a writer with a cat.

(I'm now a cliche)

Hmmm, what else?

I read I AM NUMBER FOUR by James Frey Pittacus Lore yesterday.

Don't believe the hype. It is meh.
The plot idea is good.
I don't mind present tense, in fact, when done well, I rather love the change of pace.
The writing just wasn't there. It's cliche and adverb riddled. *sigh*

I am still drowning in Revision Hell.

In my defense, I was away on a long vacation and have since been very busy... plus I managed to critique 30+ chapters for CPs in the last month.
As of yesterday, I am focusing on my revisions.  I'd like to get this book cleaned up/finished and off to my CP's before Nano, so I can start my Shiny New Idea in November.

Which brings me to this year's Nano...

Who's doing it this year? (I am)

I'd like to put together a Nano-group so we can all keep tabs on each other. So, if you're doing  Nano this year and want to be part of my group, please put your Nano user name in my comments section, add some info if you'd like (genre, etc.) and I'll compile them and post it as we get closer to November.
My user name is: the-sharp-pen
Feel free to Buddy me, if you're already registered.

Back to Revision Hell. Yeah.
I write to music, as most of you well know.

Here's what I've been listening to:

Happy Weekend!

Love,
Lola

Great old song!
Now I'm the only writer without a cat! (I have two dogs).
Enjoy your itty bitty kitteh!

I think you just inspired me to do NANO for the first time this year.

I will be doing NaNo this year. I'll join your group. I will be working on a paranormal suspense(?). I'm not sure how suspenseful it will be. I'm already register as a failure from last year so hopefully I'll win this time!

I'm allergic to cats and most pets so I will never be a cat person or a writer cliche. At least I winned at something. ;P

Lindsay said...

& I love this song by mumford & sons...

Yay another Bichon lover! I have 2... and 3 mixes. Hehe.

I will be doing NaNo again this year - 4th time! I'd love to join a group. They wouldn't let me change my username so I had to make a new account this year, so I am under "lizwrites" now.

Laura Marcella said...

Yes, I have a NaNo account! Sunshine21. I did it for my first time last Nov. and "won." So fun! I'm not sure yet what I'll be writing for it this year...it's coming up fast so I should probably start thinking about that!

I'm a dog person, too. I like medium-sized dogs! And I love guinea pigs. I'm not a cat person at all. Other people's cats are okay, but I definitely don't want one for myself.

Good luck getting out of Revision Hell!!!

I love that song!

I don't have a cat or a dog. I'm a no pet person because there's no way I'd clean up the mess they make. Ick.

Not sure about NaNo yet. I'm a dog person, but we don't have one at the moment. And no, puppy training is not a task I want to tackle right now, thanks.

Cute kitteh! You rock, as always Lola.

Joann Swanson said...

Yay! A kitty! She's darling. We have three cats and I highly recommend Swheat littler. It's a natural wheat product and it keeps the smell down like no other litter I've tried. I swear, some litter is designed to smell worse than what the cat produces. Also, my hubby has an allergy to cats and litter and this stuff doesn't bother him in the least - practically dust free. It's pricey, but well worth it.

Yay!! The Cure!! Awwww lovely lovely Robert Smith lovely!! Sigh.

Awww I love your little Bichon doggy and Itteh Bitty Kitteh is just adorable! ! Oh Gorgeous Lola now you are a complete and wonderful and lovely walking talking writing erm.. fab cliche!! Yay!!!!!

GOOD LUCK with your revision!!!! Being all new to this blogging biz I need to read up on this NaNoWri thingy as I'm not that clued up with it. Thanks for the info!!

Have a great Friday!! Yay it's Friday!!

As for kitty litters - golly there should be loads of products now with odour controlling litters - catsan is ok but there are organic ones too. Good luck!!! Also I notice that it's what the kitties eat that causes the stink! Sorry!

Take care
x

No cats, no NANO, but I do write to music too ;) I've conditioned myself that when I hear any Kings of Leon song I immediately start composing sentences in my head -- well, when I hear their early stuff when they were nobodies...when I hear their later/popular tracks, I take the edit pencil to my brain. That's how long it's taking me to finish this freaking book!

I am a dog person as well.

Have a great Friday!

Both your cat and your dog are adorable. I can see how you're smitten. About the litter? Yuck. It's awful.

I'd love to be part of your NaNoWriMo group. My username is the same a my email, I think. I'll buddy you there.

And oh my, how I love Mumford and Sons.

Susan Tiner said...

I'm a cat person but your doggie is an awfully cute one. And itty bitty kitteh is too cute for words.

As for litter, we let our cats go out and they poop in everyone else's garden but ours. It's a really pet friendly neighborhood -- all the neighbors know each other and are friendly -- so we know the kitties visit other gardens and poop their hearts out.

I know letting cats outdoors doesn't work in every neighborhood.

Amy Allgeyer Cook said...

OMGosh!! Is it time to think NaNo already? [cringes]

Wendy Ramer said...

Your puppy love is undoubtedly adorable, but that itty bitty kitteh...yum. Now you are certain to succeed in the writing world :-)

KarenG said...

I think I already entered your contest. Hope so because I love winning stuff. Yes, I'm doing Nano too, and I can't wait, but I haven't yet registered.

Susan Fields said...

I'm coming to your house immediately to steal your kitty. Never mind that I have no idea where you live, I have to have her. Actually, she looks exactly like my kitty, Peanut, did when she was a kitten. She's all grown up now, but still very petite. Your dog is a doll, too! Such beautiful white fur and a sweet little face. :)

I'm undecided on Nano, it's going to depend on where I'm at with other projects when we get closer to November. Will you give us another chance to sign up for your group then?

Cheeseboy said...

I don't own a dog or a cat or a hamster.

Good luck with revision hell. I bet it is nice there.

James Garcia Jr said...

My cat, Jones, said to tell your kitten hello.
;)
Have a great weekend...

The puppy and kitty are adorable! My advice on kitty litter... not to sound like an advertisement, but my cat's boxes always smelled horribly until I bought Arm & Hammer cat litter. Now it still smells bad, but not nearly as bad as before. Hope that helps.

Those may be the 2 most adorable pets ever!

I haven't decided on NaNo or not this year yet. I've done it the past 2 years, but I don't know if it'll be good timing or not yet.

Liza said...

Fresh Step Crystals for that cute kitty. Obviously I have one...my first pet ever, and last pet ever, I promise. Oh yea, I like her...but it's hard to teach an old girl cat tricks.

Lola Sharp said...

Susan (et all)---Yes! Anyone can join us at any time. The real craziness doesn't begin until November 1st. :)

I'll mention it a few more times before Nov. rolls around.

THANKS everyone who gave me kitty litter tips! I'll try them ALL.

The dogs do their business outside. I know she looks like a puppy, but she is 6 years old (the other dog is 10), and they've been trained to go to the back of our acre to go potty. I never see it or smell it.

Kitty is lucky she's cute and affectionate.

I love The Cure! And your kitty is so cute. =) Have a great weekend!

Sharon K. Mayhew said...

OMGoodness what a cute puppy and I'm so glad that adorable kitten found you! I'm sure it will improve your concentration...(Except for when she walks on your keyboard while you are writing and she will.)

Hart Johnson said...

I am a cat person who LOVES LOVES LOVES my dogs... because they are mine (sort of why I love my kids... I don't love kids across the board... only MY kids, kind kids, clever kids... the annoying kids can go away) So you can be a dog lover who loves your CUTEST THING ON EARTH kitty. (or you can send her to my house because I will love her like crazy)

And on NaNo--I AM SO THERE! Have my idea jotted... briefly... Have two books to edit first, but the one on deadline I intentionally scheduled for my AGENT to have it for November (aren't I clever?)--it is due December 31--so that made sense anyway--get it to her end of Oct. let her have a month, then I'd have it a month for any needed changes)

OMG, I have been obsessively thinking about NaNo this week. Did it rub off? I love NaNo. I love winter. And writing NaNo in the winter is the best!!

And having more than 2 friends will be even better, because I am NOTHING if not UBER-COMPETITIVE with my wordcount! :D :D :D

My username is (shocker): summerbp

Oh oh, and the kitty is adorable. So, so cute. That's about how big my kitties were a week into having them.

Carolina Valdez Miller said...

OMG, what a cuuuuuute cliche!! so cuddly. I don't have a cat. Or a dog anymore :( We travel a lot, so we probably won't. but I love other people's fur babies!

Jennie Bailey said...

I was a dog person until I got my first cat. Now I'm kind of a fencer. I don't know which name I like best - Pumpkin or Punkin or Bitty Kitteh (that made me laugh!). Litterbox IS vile. We use Feline Pine - environmentally friendly and cuts down on the stink more than the clay. However, we have one that doesn't bury and hers get scooped right away. The best part is - you can flush it! My mom uses clay litter but sprinkles some odor neutralizer in it. You could try that too.

I think I'm in for NaNo. Not 100% positive yet, though. When I'm sure of it, I'll let you know!

Jessica Hill said...

Oh my goodness, your pets are so cute. :)

And I was actually one who loved I Am Number Four. I've been spreading the hype. XD

Lola Sharp said...

Jessica--This is why we have chocolate and vanilla...and mint chocolate chip (my favorite) ice cream. Book love is subjective. :)

Tamara Narayan said...

Hi Lola,

Thanks for joining my site! Yours looks pretty awesome. I love the pets.

For the cat litter, be sure to scoop it twice a day, change the whole shebang every couple of weeks, and wash the box with soap while you're at it. Not fun, I know.

Good luck with revision hell. I keep trying to escape mine but keep getting sucked back in. Maybe it's a virgo-perfectionist thing.

LOL! Welcome to the clique writers club. We've been known to wear sweats and put our messy hair up with a clip, and yes, we have cats. ;-)

Lola Sharp said...

Oh Heather, I have the sweats and hair up part down pat. ;)

Revision hell? You and me both and I have a feeling we write/revise in a simlar way. Sigh. We'll get there.
