OMG, I'm So in Love, There's So Many Ways To Love You...

I am SO in love with books...

Every once in a great while I show you guys pictures of some of our bookshelves. We have 12 or 13 now (plus a few smaller ones in the basement for cookbooks and music books etc)...all full.  Last week I was visiting Kimberly Loomis' lovely blog and she inspired me to show a few more of our bookcases:

It's fun to peek at other people's bookshelves, yes?

I must preface this post by making it clear that there is very little organization going on in these shelves. My system fell apart years ago. *sigh* Pretty much it's just a cram-it-where-you-can 'system'.

Here's a close-up of the shelves in this bookcase (I think you can click on the pictures to see them better/bigger):

This always feels so personal to me, like I'm showing you my inner workings.

Okay, this one (below) is my chick-lit and straight-up guilty-pleasure-reading bookcase...mock away (and Shroeder as Phantom of the Opera and his little baby grand. Yeah. That's right.):

I'd show you more of mine, but the Daughter (she's 14) wants me to show you a couple of her bookcases (she has several, and needs another) because she just moved her bookcases around:

(tried for a close-up here. sorry my photography is so lousy.)

The shelves below is another one of my daughter's books...

A close-up...

Okay, I've bored you enough...suffice it to say, we have MANY more bookshelves, all of them equally jammed full.

I have one full of JUST zombie books! Some day maybe I'll show you that one.

I bet you want to know if I forgot about my Back From Maine Contest?

Stay tuned. It promises to be EPIC.

It is so great to find someone else who has bookshelves filled with books. Mine have over run into storage boxes. LOL But you can never have too many books, just not enough room for them.

Your daughter's bookcases are so neat. Is she always so neat? We have several bookcases too and just put books where they fit. No system any longer. Just glad to have place for the books. I know what you mean, showing the bookcases is sort of showing your personal stuff.

I feel the love! And your daughter's bookshelf is gorgeous; I wish I had that!! (Do I see She's Come Undone?? Love that book!)

Cheeseboy said...

Holy crud! Next time I need a book I will come to your place instead of our local library.

Oh I love looking at other people's bookshelves when they have me round their houses (only the once for some reason..!!LOL!).
So these are brilliant pics!! And yay for your daughter to have such NEAT shelves!!! Wonderful!! Full of lovely jubbly books - we love books, yes we do!

Take care

LOVE the shelves
LOVE the lamps on top of the shelves
LOVE how neatly organized your bookshelves are (mine are a bit more chaotic)

What percent of these have you read?

Wow, one full of just zombie books? That is so cool! I love book shelves. <3

I loved this post. I'm off out to buy a new bookcase this weekend and may just post pictures of mine next week!

Love the teaser title of this post. I did something similar a couple posts ago when I was Falling in Love...with my hometown. But books are certainly worth eternal devotion ;-)

Awsome! I couldn't keep my books organized to save my life!. Glad you're passing the love to your next generation!

OMG I am so jealous of the awesomeness. I just got into the book game, I'm a little late so I'm afraid that mine fit perfectly on two small shelves and the rest are covered with my husbands movies. I hope to one day have such magical bookshelves such as these!

Your daughter's book s are right up my alley! Thanks for baring your..err...uh...bookshelves. (It's like being naked, I know)

I love it! I love seeing pictures of bookshelves. It's like porn.

Evan's made me promise to hold off the buying of too many more books until we've bought a house and have space and aren't planning on MOVING within the next couple years. He's tired of lugging 15 boxes of books. :-)

I love Ikea bookshelves becasue they come in different sizes. I've recently decided to replace my other bookshelves with a few bigger ikea ones.

Love your shelves - you & your daughter have a ton of good books! :)

FUN! I spotted several oldies but goodies (Catch-22, Shogun) that sit on my shelf as well. It's also good to see that your daughter has taken up the love of literature. :)

I am jealous of all of the amazing bookshelves in your house. And your daughter has a great room! Wish my stepdaughter loved books :-(

I wonder in which states it is legal to marry a book?

I'm moving there.

I love looking at other people's bookshelves!!! Whenever I go to someone's house, if they have books, I immediately gravitate towards that. Once when my husband and I were at a dinner party, I went to the bathroom and never came back. Everyone wondered if I was sick or something, and hubby said, "Check the library." Sure enough, there I was, lol. I didn't realize I'd been in the library so long!

You and your daughter have excellent taste in books. We have a lot of the same ones!

Hart Johnson said...

Saw some familiar titles! I wish we had a bigger house. I would have book shelves ALL OVER but the hubster gets annoyed because we already have so little room... I use the library a lot.

How old is your daughter? Mine is 15 and Ellen Hopkins is her current favorite author, and I saw a few of those, so am thinking we have similarly aged...

laurel said...

I thought I had a lot of books...till I met my hubby the philosophy prof. We had to get a 2-bedroom apartment when we first married just to accommodate his scary-huge collection. Oh, and he has them all in Library of Congress order with spine labels. Even with 2/3 of his collection now living at his office on campus, he still hogs all the shelf space. I go to the library a lot too. :-(

Love it. I'm still managing to maintain some sense of organization in my one mongo bookcase, but it's getting to the point where I'm going to be switching to the cram-it-where-you-can system pretty soon too. Sigh. Too many books, not enough space!

This post got me so excited, I love looking at other people's book choices! I especially like the set of books about writing, on the top shelf ("Dialogue", "Plot and Structure", "Characters and Viewpoint" etc). Also it's amazing that you have a "guilty pleasures/ chick lit" bookshelf, I'm totally going to do that when I've got a house of my own.

love it! When I go to someone's house, I'm always looking for where they stash their books...and if there are none, it freaks me out just a little bit. :)

Sometimes I have fantasies about reading for pleasure. sigh

Oh, I love your shelves! And your daughter's - how cool that she's a reader, too, and proud of it.

My shelves are in a state of disaster. They must be tidied before I would even consider showing anyone!

Heather said...

This looks a lot like my bookshelves! We even have many of the same books. Great minds read alike!

Lisa said...

What it is about books? I love having them, reading them, looking at them on my shelves and at other people's shelves.

P.S. I love that yellow-green on your daughter's wall!

Susan Fields said...

It looks like your 14-year-old daughter reads a lot of the same books my 14-year-old daughter reads.

I love books, too! My sister just goes to the library, but I end up buying them more than borrowing them.

Dawn Simon said...

How fun to see your bookshelves! Good stuff! Tell your daughter I like her taste in books! :)

I came back to let you know there's an award for you at my blog. :)

My two year-old doesn't have a "serious" bookshelf yet, but I know it'll only be a few years and we'll be book sharing with the best of them. I can't wait.

Nice books, Lola!

I always look at other people's books when I'm in their house. Its a great ice breaker to see a book I've read. Now if I can only see my book in someone else's house.

Love this post! Phenomenal pictures! I'm right there with you -- just love looking at books and bookcases. I wish I had as many as you do! :D

Goooooooorgeous bookcases! Very drool-worthy. Your daughter's too. Looks like she takes after her mama! It makes me feel downright rotten because my daughter has to share all her YA books with me, so she doesn't even have her own bookshelves. And I don't have enough, either. We got rid of a ton before we moved to the UK to minimize how much we shipped overseas, and now I have stacks and stacks of books on the floor. Ah well. Someday I'll get around to it.

Aww I love your daughters room/bookshelves ( and that she asked you to post them on your blog) - cute :)

I'm aspiring to have a collection as big as yours one day.

I'm curious.... What did you name your daughter? :)

Thank you, friends, for the lovely comments.

If you decide to post pictures of your books/bookcases/shelves, please let me know. I don't want to miss it.

The Child is thrilled that you like her bookshelves.

Love it! And don't worry, my book shelves system? - what system? hehe. I will post some pics of day.

And, ahem..can I just say those are tidiest teenage girl's bookcases I have seen. So great that she is reading all those books!! Well done to her and you! ;)

Love looking at pictures of other people's bookshelves. I am scared to print pictures of mine, because I shove books in because there is no place, and am scared the vibration from the clicking of the shutter would make them all fall out. Yes, seriously.

Lola!! I missed you, sista! Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments you left on my blog while I was away. You always make me smile.

It was great fun to see some of your and Daughter's bookshelves. We have a lot of the same books! Can't wait to see the zombie book collection :D

Have a fab week!!
((hugs)) Nicole

recently I organized books on my bookshelfs by colour of the cover. It looks quite nice. Quite stupid, too. It'a a visible proof that I've got too much time on my hands!

And - of course: Twilight series - it's on my younger sister's bookshelf, too :)

I LOVE bookshelves. And I love the lime green wall. Very cool.

My problem is I buy more books than I can keep up with!

Oh dear, do you think we should all go to therapy? I was looking at my TBR pile this afternoon trying to choose the next one, but I've so many I couldn't make up my mind.

Yep. I'm still in love with your bookshelves. *sigh. Just gorgeous.

One day soon I shall post mine. I've been threatening to do so for a while now. It's good that you have a little book shelf space in the front. I wish I had that. I'm always knocking stuff over.
