I'm Back!

I'm home from a 3 week Maine vacation. The first half of our trip we stayed in a seaside cottage near Kennebunkport (Cape Porpoise) then we packed up and drove north to another seaside cottage in Bar Harbor/Acadia. It was lovely. The food was righteous. But...

I'm glad to be home in MY house with MY STUFF! I missed my creature comforts and my Tivo and my pool and MY BED, my much less buggy life.

The lobster, clams, blueberries, lupines and mosquitos are for real.

And we did see these adorable puffins (we went on a whale watching boat trip-Husband took these photos):

But, nary a moose was seen by us. I think the supposed Maine Moose must hang out with unicorns.

Yeah. So enough about me and my mooseless Maine vacation.

How are YOU?

I tried to sneak and visit you guys while I was up there, but internet is sketchy in the boondocks. Even our iphones could rarely get on. But I plan to spend plenty of time this week catching up with y'all.

Fill me in on YOU; tell me what's new.
How is your writing going?

Happy Monday!

Yay--Lola's back!!!!

So glad you had a nice time--but I know what you mean about coming home. There is something magical about sleeping in your OWN bed. I was only gone for the weekend and I missed it.

Not much new or exciting to report here. But I can't wait to hear more details about your trip! :)

I'm glad you had a great vacation! There are a lot of mosquitoes out there! And I've lived in NH my whole life and have NEVER seen a moose. I do think they tend to flock with the unicorns.

I'm too scared of getting sea sick to go whale watching. Was the boat bumpy?

Wendy Ramer said...

Those puffins do not look real, I must say. Glad to see you back. After a long vacation, there's no place like home ;-)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

You should've taken your moose goggles!

JEM said...

I'm so jealous of your wonderful Maine vacation. And those puffins are so cute! I don't suppose they'd made good pets? Welcome back!

KLM said...

I hear you can throw a saddle on them Maine mosquitoes and ride them all the way to Newfoundland.

We still have our big beach vacation ahead of us in August. I intend to imitate a cucumber or some other vegetable while there. I'm just gonna sit in the sun and that's pretty much all.

Welcome back!

The photos are adorable. Glad you're home safe and sound and sounds like you had a great time.

I love your new look blog and the fab Terry Pratchett quote - he ROCKS!!

And puffins. You can;t go wrong with puffins. Puffins are just like pandas. They look like they;re from another planet but no! They're here and they're here to stay so that humans can go mushy and go "awwwwwwww"!!!

Take care

Yay! Lola! Missed your! I've got a crazy contest tomorrow. Stop by and see!!!

Oh Dearest, I'm so glad you've come back. Being home is so refreshing after vacation. While you have pictures of puffins, did you see any whales? And I've heard moose are very reclusive and usually don't come out until mating season which isn't until the fall.

Laura Marcella said...

I'm sorry you didn't see any moose! They're really amazing up close.

Those puffins are adorable! Your husband took great pics!

Welcome home!

I love puffins! I’ve come to the same conclusion in regards to moose, jack-a-lopes, unicorns, and moose all mythological animals.

Jemi Fraser said...

I didn't know there were puffins in that area - they're adorable!

Glad you enjoyed the vacation! I know what you mean about getting home though. Nothing quite like sleeping in my own bed :)

Falen (Sarah) said...

yay puffins!

also, 3 weeks seems like an absurdly long time for a vacay, and yet, it seems like you just left yestetday.

wtf is up with that?
it must be my old age (and by "old age" i mean "almost 30". It's probably all down hill from here...)

Your vacation sounds lovely but I agree, coming home after a trip is almost as satisfying as going away in the first place. To me anyway.

My writing is going so, so. My characters are messing with me so I'm a little annoyed, to be honest.

I love the puffins.

Oh my gosh! Those puffins are so cute!!! It looks like a wonderful place to visit.

I am still revising that wip, but have had great feedback. I can't wait to send it out. =)

Welcome back! What adorable pictures!

I was recently away from the blog world for a while, but I'm back now too, after moving into a new home and finishing my MG novel!

Welcome back! Three weeks is a long time to be away from your own stuff. Heck, sometimes a weekend is too much for me!

Maine and Alaska are my dream vacations and sadly, I have been to neither.

I saw a moose in Yellowstone this year. 3, in fact. Didn't catch any unicorns though.

Tricia J. O'Brien said...

Puffins! I love puffins. How cool are those pictures! As for moose, I almost got trampled by one in Yellowstone. They're real and they're spectacular.

Jeff King said...

Welcome back, cool pictures, glad you made it home safe.

I'm glad you're back!! Yay!!

I haven't written anything regarding the wip. I have been doing research for my nano idea. So so excited for november!! Or I may do it sooner...if I can't stand waiting anymore.

Those puffins are adorable!

I'm glad you're back. But how could you leave just a week before I'm heading there?!

I went to Long Island, came back. Did some writing last week, but not enough. Started query hell. Same old, same old.

Summer said...

I've managed to hold off from my newly-completed WIP for five whole days now. Pretty good, huh?

Those puffins are the cutest!

Also, I held a tegu lizard thing yesteray. It was a big step for me. :-)

Welcome back!!!!!
Me? I'm on the verge of finally starting my book. But it's so freaking scary.

Isn't your own bed the BEST comfort of comforts? Absence truly makes the bed grow comfier. The only thing I write besides a grocery list (which can be quite creative actually) is my blog. But, every time I visit you I get a niggling expand that horizon. Maybe I will someday...

Welcome back!! No matter how awesome the vacation, it's always nice to get home and sleep in your own bed.

I must join in the puffin love fest, they are adorable!

Yay! Welcome home. Those puffins are so stinkin' cute! And that picture of the hand had me laughing out loud, I must tell you!

Welcome Home! I've wanted to see the East Coast for years! Nothing like home though. Moose are a little scary though; they're bigger than some apartments I've had!

Susan Fields said...

Welcome back, and I know exactly what you mean about being back in your own bed. Vacations are great, but nowhere beats home in my opinion. And I just love those cute Puffin photos!

Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation. What great pictures of the puffins. Never heard of them before I started blogging. See all the interesting things I learn from blogging? I think these little guys are so cute.

glad you're back! I'm still pausing on my current w.i.p. editing, but I can hear the rush of it getting closer. I wrote a few pages/outlined a new story. It's crazy fun. I hadn't written in over a month, so it was nice to get back to that place.
enjoy your week of reorientation!

Welcome home, Lola!!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog while you were away. Your post made me smile!

Did you see... STEPHEN KING while in Maine??? ;) Whenever I read "Bar Harbor" I think of his description of local pronunciation of the place... do they really call it "Baa Haabaa"?

As for my writing, I'm locked in edits right now and hating/loving it. Getting ready to go to a convention next month in Vegas. Sending out short stories to horror markets diligently. Whew.

You were missed, lady. :)

Welcome back! I love the pictures of the puffins! Things are still nail biting with me, two books on editor submission right now and I'm working on writing another!

Welcome back! The puffins are fabulous! I hope you are all rested and all.

I've just been a writing fool... that's pretty much it.

We missed you - welcome back! :)

I'm from up the coast - Nova Scotia - so I feel your mosquito pain. Those critters like to bite! I'm jealous of your lobster, though.

Hmmm, Maine & puffins vs. Tivo & bed. It's a tough call.

Thanks for your heart-felt comment on my blog today. You are a blogger/writer/chica with a big heart. And I love ya for it!!

All I want to say is that I LOVE puffins - definately in my top 3 fave funny looking birds.

Holy catfish, those puffins are so adorable. Did you bring one home with you? Awwwwww....

So sorry for the mooselessness. But it sounds like you had a lovely time regardless. I'm a bit envious. I would love to go to Maine and eat some lobster and steal puffins.

Welcome back, luvie!

...welcome back, Lola:)

I'm curious, do you think perhaps puffins are made fun of by their fellow water fowl neighbors? You know, like the Ugly Duckling, or the Black Sheep of the family...they have that look about them. Pretty bird from a human perspective, but from say, an Osprey flying overhead, thinking, "Wow. Hate to be that guy. No way he's getting lucky with the ladies." ...haven't had enough sleep this week, can ya tell?

Lola Sharp said...

Hi Friends!

Thank you for all your sweet and funny comments. :)

Wendy--the puffins are real...and they're cute. Smaller than you think... a little smaller than a duck. Maybe big/fat pigeon size, but with a big head and beak. The sailors call the the Parrots of the Sea.

Puffins look tropical, but they're a cold water bird. They were almost extinct here, so in the 70's a man went to Newfoundland and brought a few pairs back...and now they've repopulated nicely. They're way out on some Maine islands...not on the mainland. You have to take a boat out to see them.

B--I did not see Stephen King. Sorry. I can tell you that they love him up there...he's their claim to fame, beloved son. (we love him elsewhere, too.) He was probably there, since he stays up there in the summer and he and his wife, apparently, liven Fla. in the winter. So the locals tell me.

I'm betting he is easier to spot than a freaking moose. ;)

And YES...the accent is for real!! Sad, but true. (I found it abrasive. )

I missed all of you. It's true.

Thank you for filling me in on what's going on with you...and your WiPs. I know this is a tough craft and even tougher business. But being in it with all of you makes it infinitely less tough.

Owww, Maine! I love that state and visited it just a couple of years ago. The ice cream rocked my world. Acadia National Park was so lovely as well as all the coastline and all that wild beauty.

Still, it's nice to be home, isn't it? Glad you're back!

Elliot Grace said...

...Stephen King owns beach front property on Nokomis in Florida, along the same high dollar strip where Oprah's vacation home sits. During the winter months he's often spotted walking the shoreline, and I was told from the locals while vacationing down there last summer, that he's very approachable, and adores spontaneous conversation with fellow beachcombers. Naturally when I was there, he was in Maine...figures.

Welcome home, Lola :-) I agree, the puffins are adorable. Editing, editing, editing here with mixed progress. Too much thinking, not enough producing!
