Ain't No Rest For the Wicked...or TGIF!

So, it's 8:32 Friday that too early to have a cocktail? What if I make it a bloody mary...or a mimosa? I'm only half joking.
You see, try as I might, I cannot catch up. The to-do list is long, the time is finite, and it's stressing me out. I haven't opened my WiP in weeks, I am behind on critiquing my CP's chapters, and my hair needs cut and colored in the worst way.

And I'm PISSED (and terribly sad, brokenhearted) about the oil gushing in the gulf.

My life is good, I'm blessed. But I could use a drink.

Tell me, how is YOUR Friday feeling? How is YOUR WiP doing? Anyone want to join me for a Friday morning cocktail?

Happy Weekend!

Edited to add---GO FLYERS!

Oh Lola, I can *so* relate. I'll drink to your To-Do List if you'll drink to mine. I woke up this morning with that overwhelmed feeling. I'll think of you as I down a whiskey...jk. Kind of.

Jayne said...

Hi Lola. I hate it when the 'to do' list becomes over-whelming too. Instead of staring at the whole lot, just take one thing and see how that goes. Put the list away where it can stay until Monday rather than staring at it when you have no time.

My poor Wip. I feel so close to the end yet have had no time to spend on it since last Sunday. And this weekend I am busy (family wedding / friends) so no time then, either. I feel so guilty about the time I am spending elsewhere.

Make mine a Bloody Mary!

I'm in the same place with too many things lined up, but I'm not so stressed about it. I'm not sure why, but I guess it's because I have permitted myself to have a break. I haven't seen my w.i.p. in two weeks, although I'm aching to write some of my new ideas for fleshing it out, I have 200 pages of a CP's stuff to read, and school's out that mean's throwing an 8-year old into my days. I'm just going with the flowing. (I can't think about the's much too much).

Jaydee Morgan said...

I'd normally love to join you in a Friday morning cocktail - however, I have to work today so I probably should pass.

Understand about that never-ending to-do list. Keep your chin up and enjoy your weekend :)

Oh leader...if there is any way to help - let me know ;o)

I feel your pain. I am swamped BUT to be honest I love it...having so many activities for writing right now is just....bliss...even though I am behind I know that what my time will be focused on is my passion so don't worry it will get better - if by better I only mean that when you write a showstopping scene for the WIP when you should be doing laundry or cooking then so be it... ;o)

I'll have a bloody Mary with you!

The oil spill is a disgrace, utter, utter, utter disgrace! :-(

Makes me want to howl at the moon and growl at what we do to this earth!

Anyway, I shall drink to a calmer and productive weekend for all!

take care

Oh I can so understand the feeling! A writers life is so full of ups and downs, and with rejection and frustration being the norm, the downs can feel much more frequent than the ups.

Just let yourself lean on your friends (both real and virtual!) and you'll get through the tough days and be writing and submitting happliy again in no time.

Talli Roland said...

Well, it's past 3 pm here and I say anytime is a good time for a cocktail. I hear you on the to-do list - I feel like I am drowning in the daily amount of work to be done.

Come on over to London, we'll go to the park and have a bottle or three (you can drink legally in public here!).

Talli Roland said...

Oops, obviously I meant 'public spaces'.

Summer said...

I need a pick-me-up. I stayed up way too late last night giggling and snarking and drinking beer.

I'd do a cocktail, but I'm going to go workout now...since I totally decided not to yesterday, as better opportunities presented themselves.

And now I will sing to you:

"What do tigers dream of, when they take a little tiger snooze? Do they dream of mauling zebras, or Halle Berry in her cat woman suit? Don't you worry your pretty striped head, we're gonna get you back to Tyson and your cozy tiger bed. And then we're gonna find our best friend Doug(Lola) and then we're gonna give him )her) a best friend hug. Doug, Doug, Oh, Doug Douggie Douggie Doug Doug. (Lola, Lola, oh, Lo-Lola la la la) But if (s)he's been murdered by crystal meth tweekers, well then we're s-hit out of luck."

Happy weekend! :-)

the very fact that it's friday serves to boost my mood.

Sure i didn't get as much revising done this week, but tomorrow's another day to make it better!

I'm always playing catch up. My "to do" list is now named "stuff I forgot in the process and now need to finish...tommorow" list. I try not to over stress myself on the 'to do' but occasionally on weeks like this one it creeps up. I just posted on my very blah week, and now feeling more productive.
Enjoy your weekend!

JEM said...

Lola, I will ALWAYS join you in a Friday morning mimosa. No questions asked, no explanations needed.
I know how you feel about the WIP, I just wrote a post yesterday about what to do after the climax, and I don't even have CPs yet to fill my time with editing and feedback.

Mason Canyon said...

Oh Lola, just remember somewhere in the world it's late in the day so no problem having that drink. I think Fridays call for early morning, mid day and late afternoon drinking. Best of luck.

Pour that drink! You deserve it :-) I know what you mean about the to-do list. Sometimes the more you do, the longer it grows.

Speaking of the oil spill, my 4 year old saw footage of the spill on the news this morning. He started asking what booms where and why the birds were in the mud. It broke my heart to try to explain this awful thing to a little person who has so many questions. But it's inevitable. My father in law lives on Dauphin Island, and they're watching those bloody tar balls wash in every day.

Hope you have a good, productive weekend!

I'll take some Bailey's in my coffee! Bottoms Up!!

Take a deep cleansing breath. Relax. It will all come together in-time. :)

I'll join you in an early morning drink and we can make up silly new words!!

Jen said...

Tell me where you are at and give me ten minutes... I'll buy the cocktails ;)

I've been having the summer blues, I didn't think it would happen but I too have a bad case of no real writing the past few weeks. I think my mojo ran empty. I have a book being delivered today and I hope that takes me out of my writers coma beacuse I need it! Lets pray from some heavy writing (after I have a great night with the girls, cocktails are a necessity before writing... and after I get some sun on the beach, again writing is not complete without some much needed summer air)

The gulf spill is awful, I hate watching poor seagulls drenched in oil and no one to help them... breaks my heart!

mi said...

my friend posted pics of how the oil is killing birds and sea life. it was really heartbreaking. and it sucks to feel helpless while you watch how everything unfolds on tv.

Janet Johnson said...

My WIP is not getting near enough attention! Good luck with it all. An extra hour in the day could do so much. :)

Saumya said...

AAhh, I am going to start on my WIP after I comment. I PROMISE. And may I join you for a cocktail??

Piedmont Writer said...

Oh if I still drank I definitely would join you! I just got another partial rejection! Bloodies sound real good right about now.

Watery Tart said...

I will toast with you, my friend. Make my bloddy Mary spicy and use a couple cocktail onions if you would.

I offer solace though... It is only the 4th. If you REALLY need a kick in the butt to write, join us for our BuNoWriMo (search it on facebook--there we are--writing 50K in June. If you start today you can win with less than 2000 words a day (and maybe that WiP will be DONE).

I get overwhelmed between the day job, the childings, the whinymanhusbandaryunit... but when I get a kick in the butt to WRITE, it all matters a little less. So I am officially kicking your butt. WRITE! (and join us to do it if you like--cocktails are welcome)

G.~ said...

I'm in! But it's almost one o'clock now.
I'm starting revisions on my WiP. Although it isn't completed yet either. But I had to do something to get me moving again. So here I am, commenting and surfing. ;)

Liza said...

It's mid-afternoon now. But a mimosa sounds good.

Cynthia Reese said...

Slay those to-do list dragons one at a time ... and if you don't get to them (and they don't bite you back) then they must not have been that important.

Heather said...

Ah Friday cocktails, that sounds like heaven. I'd be going a bit crazy if I hadn't opened my #WIP in days, let alone weeks! Life has a way of getting in the way sometimes though. It happens to us all. Dido on the oil spill, hugely depressing and oh so sad. We have GOT to find an alternative fuel. Now.

Wendy Ramer said...

Oh Lola, if I'd only seen this post hours ago. I actually woke up at 4:45 and couldn't get back to sleep when my mind turned to yesterday's torturous event with my special needs son. Today is turning out better, but earlier this morning, I soooo could have used that drink. Here's a toast to you!

Aubrie said...

I'm mad about the oil in the gulf, too. It's getting to the point where I can't even watch the news any more.

Hope you get some stuff done today!

Lola Sharp said...

Y'all are the best. :) *Cheers!*

NOTE- my responses aren't in order...blame the champagne)

Wendy, I'm sorry you had a bad day yesterday. Glad that today is better.

Heather, YES, Alt. fuel. If they do any more drilling off our coasts I'm gonna FREAK out.

Liza, A mimosa almost always sounds good, no?

Cynthia, I'm exhausted of the slaying. I think I'll just have a drink.

G, This round's on me. :)

Saumya, Please do join me. :)

Tart/Hart, I'm in the revision stage...nothing that can be rushed. I've just been too busy with the kid and life to have time to work on it.

Dawn, I hereby toast to your to-do list!

Jayne, Bloody Mary's it is!

Anne, HUGS!

DL, I LOVE coffee with Baileys. It's one of my favorite winter drinks.

JEM, Thanks for having my back! Back at you, sister.

GF, Schmooo-stastic! Cheers!

Mason, I like the way you think! :)

Summer, Your singing redeemed you from your working out instead of imbibing with me.

Janet, I'm already surviving off 5 hours sleep/night. I need an extra FEW hours/day.

Mi and Portia, The pelicans are so coated you can't even tell they're pelicans. They look like blobs. It's past the point of upsetting me. I was irate and sobbing. If my kid didn't need me here, I'd be down there helping clean them up. I'm SO frustrated.

Jen, I'll buy the drinks today. :)

Nicole and Sarah/Falen, Lolanods!!! ;)

Erica, I'm sorry you had a blah week. :(

folding fields, I feel you. I'll drink to that.

Talli, if I could transport myself I would SO come hang and drink with you...and India!

India, CONGRATS on publication! :)

Jaydee, Sorry you have to work. Join me at happy hour?

Courtney, you're sweet. And, I usually like to be busy too....I work well under pressure. But I have TOO much right now, and it ALL HAS to get done.

Kitty, Bloody Mary's count as a meal too! Bonus. ;)

I'd like to dunk the BP bastards in the gulf and let them get goo-ed in the oil sludge.

*raising glass* Happy Friday, Friends! Thanks for understanding.

Lola Sharp said...

Aubrie, I know. It's so heinous and has gone on so long....there just aren't words. My blood is boiling.

Lola Sharp said...

Oh....and cute totally counts! ;)

I'd go with the mimosa, girl. And I totally get the whole stressed, pissed, really disappointed that no matter how hard I try I can't seem to make any headway feelings.

Be nicer and more forgiving to yourself. Your WIP will wait for you, your crit group understands, and your hair will get cut and colored.

And remember we love you. :)

Jon Paul said...

Lola--I would so love to join you for a Friday morning cocktail (or is it afternoon now?!?), but after my Thursday night cocktail(s), I better not.

But one day soon.....:)

B. Miller said...

Hope the day got better as it went on. It's never too early for a mimosa because a mimosa has juice in it! It's the breakfast cocktail! (I like to put a little peach schnapps in mine, sometimes).

And to answer your question... My Friday is already fabulous... BECAUSE I FINISHED MY WIP at 4 AM TODAY!!! Yeah!! *dances*

Lola Sharp said...

WOOOHOOO Becky!!!!!!!!! :) CONGRATS!

JP, You were WARNING last night! (what was his name again?) ;)

SJS, I'm glad I'm in such good company. Though I wish you weren't feeling like I am. And...I love you too. :)

Christi Goddard said...

I want to finish my WIP either this weekend or next, depending on muse and time. I need it finished by my self imposed deadline of June 15th, when my contest ends. That way I can devote all my time to the entries. :-)

But for the most part I sit here and stare into space.

Elena said...

Not even getting into the ineptitude on not stopping the flow, but I can't believe after 46 days nothing has been done to save those beautiful beaches! Utter incompetence! Don't even get me started about the wildlife. Yeah, a lawsuit is really going to help. What has happened to this country???

Make mine a double Bloody Mary with Stoli, none of that cheap crap, please...

Carolyn V. said...

I feel like I have a ton to do too. I hate catch up. And the whole oil thing...I'm speechless. There are just no words.

Lola Sharp said...

Elena--I'm a Belvedere girl...but YES to a double. :)

Christie--Good luck w/ your WIP.

Carolyn--I'm with you, girl.

Happy Weekend.

It's not morning anymore, but I'll join you in a drink or two! Let's toast to catching up and keeping up!

Jeff King said...

My Friday is sucking major... but my WIP is coming along nicely.

And a drink sounds perfect, only it will have to be afternoon cocktail.

Jemi Fraser said...

I've had a crazy-busy week at work - provincial testing is exhausting for me and the kids too! My shortest workday was 10 hours - others were closer to 12. And I'll be in on the weekend. *sigh*

My brain wasn't up to the wip, so I worked a bit on the query.

So - I'm really glad it's Friday too!

Lola Sharp said...

Jeff, I'm sorry your Friday is sucking. :(
But I'm glad to hear things are going well for your WIP.

Jemi, I feel you, friend. Crazy-busy is it, exactly. I hope your weekend gives you some relief. (that you worked on your query is impressive!)

Lola Sharp said...

Vicki--*Here here!*

I'd join you for a cocktail, as long as my cocktail is Coca-Cola flavored and doesn't have any alcohol in it. People have their morning coffee; I have my morning Coke.

Elliot Grace said...

Dear Lola...the hour is now late, but I'm hoping you decided on sipping that cocktail regardless of what the numbers on that damn clock read. Falling behind on one's dream is forever infuriating...and yes, I'm suffering as well.

Sip it slowly and enjoy:)

Terresa said...

I feel your angst. The oil gush makes my heart sick, and the writing? Well, there's always writing to write...

Your cocktail is my chocolate. I wake up too often than not, considering chocolate for breakfast (hence, my oh-so-fitting blog title).

If it helps you feel any better, I spent the better part of early May either angry or in a trance-like depression of sorts. Thank heavens for sunshine and June.

Hope your weekend gets brighter. :)

LR said...

I'm reading this on Saturday but I can certainly relate to your Friday Bloody-Mary-requirement and to the oil-induced sadness. Boo hoo.

Now off to drink a Saturday Pina Colada. :)

Susan Fields said...

The oil spill is so upsetting - I can't even hardly stand to think about it.

I pretty much took this week off the wip as it was the first week of summer for my two older kids and I had to super-clean the house to prepare for my in-laws visit this weekend. Hopefully I'll get back to it next week, but with the kids home for summer I'm not overly optimistic.

Simon C. Larter said...

Well, it's Saturday morning now, but I'd be happy to join you in a cocktail. Yup.

You an' me both on the WIP and CP reading issues. Whoo! I'll have the Bloody Mary, extra Tabasco please. Thanks.

Ann said...

Am I too late for the cocktails???!!! I sure could use one or ten.

Lola Sharp said...

Ann--It's NEVER to late for cocktails!! :) Especially with friends. *raises glass* Cheers!

Simon-- *click* Cheers! (Lola likes it spicy, too. And a celery stick, and LOTS of big green olives. It's a meal and cocktail all in one!)

Susan--The In-Laws are Coming, The In-Laws are Coming! That's a case for heavy cleaning AND heavy drinking! Yipes!

LR--Mmmm, I love Pina Colada's...but they make my butt fat. Much harder to justify. Tomato juice /V8 or OJ counts as healthy ;) See how I justify it?
Cheers! *clink*

Terresa--I love, LOVE dark chocolate. (I know you don't drink..but I LOVE a chocolate's the best of both worlds) I'm glad your May ennui is over and you are on to a sunnier June! :)

Elliot--At least we're suffering together, my friend. *raises glass* Here's to slogging our way out of Revision Hell!

NW--I NEED my morning coffee. But I can appreciate a nice, icy cold Cocola. (that's how a proper southerner would say it. :)

I hope everyone is having a fab weekend!

I relate to other peoples stress. I hope you can somehow take you to-do list and eliminate some items, delegate others, legitimately postpone some items and then work with a vengeance to complete a couple items that really really need to be finished.

Shelley Sly said...

I hear you! For the past week, my WIP has (for the first time) actually taken precedence over the other items in my To Do list. But everything else is suffering. My dishes and laundry are stacked up high, and I'm behind on my own beta critiques.

I hope you had a delightful weekend and were able to de-stress! <3
