Humpday Hodgepodge: Linkage, Pimpin', Swag, Wolfpack, Writing 'those' Scenes

I know. It's true. I'm a slacker.

I am behind on posting all the awards you have graciously given me in the last week or so.

So before we get into my 'regular' (?) post, allow me to catch-up and do some linkage first:

Alexandra Crocodile,  Shelley at Stories of the OrdinaryE. Elle Susan Fields and Tara (my fellow alt-rocking writer 'twin'), all gifted me with this Blogger Buddie (<--this spelling freaks me out) Award:
(Thank you, buddy's!)
If you have never been to their blogs, please go visit them!

Go spread some sunshine on her!

The always clever  V.R. Barkowski kindly gave me this award:

(pretty!)
Stop by her place and say hello!

I hope you'll stop in to pay her a visit!

My young (she just turned 18!) friend, LEXA at Cardiac Outbursts gave me this awesome Laughing Raptor Award:
(she thinks OLD me is funny! Swear. Ask her.)
Please go wish her a happy 18th birthday!

 Dudes, guess what?
I WON a contest!
Roxy at A Woman's Write had a contest and I won!!
 A $50 gift certificate!
That is some real swag, yo!
Thank you, Roxy. I'm excited.
I can't wait until I receive it, so I can spend it. :)

Also, yesterday I hit 200+ wolves in our Wolfpack!

Welcome to the pack new wolves!
(Watch out for the tiger!)

And finally, since it IS Humpday...how do you feel about writing and/or reading sex scenes in fiction?

I likes both, if they're written well and organically [orgasmically?] part of the story.

Love,
Lola

Haha Lola you're funny! Congrats on the awards. I like to write/read sex scenes if they're done right. But nothing shocks me.

Lexa said...

aww thanks for the birthday shout out! I feel a little bit awkward writing sex scenes, not as much awkward reading them if they're well written. The only couple I remember reading are from Nicholas Sparks books and they weren't like, graphic, just really romantic. I'm a sucker for romance.

Did someone mention sex?!?!

:-)

So long as we don't name bits John Thomas and knot some forget me knots in one's erm... hair...

I like Jackie Collins. She doesn't bother with intimacies - just gets right down n dirrrrty!

Oh dear.

:-)

Congratulations with your fab awards!!!

Take care

You're welcome! And I hate the spelling too - but the picture is cute! And congrats on winning the contest + your new followers!

I love that raptor award! I'll check out this young 18-year old now.

congrats on the win!
And i'm pretty pro sex scene.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Congratulations on the awards and winning $50!
I prefer sex scenes be subtle and as of yet, I've not written one.

Aubrie said...

I don't write explicit sex scenes in any of my books. but that's just me. I don't need to read or write about the nitty gritty. But some people do.

Julie Dao said...

WOW, congrats on all of your fabulous awards and on winning the contest! :) You are hilarious and I completely agree - if they fit into the story, I say what's the harm? ;)

Piedmont Writer said...

Congratulations on all your lovely bling, Dearest. That's awesomeness right there.

I like sex when it's tastefully done, and not gratuitious or overly rambunctious. If the book is written right, you don't need the sex anyway, you only need to imagine.

ROWR! Who's the tiger? ;)

Writing sex scenes... how interesting you should bring this up, because I'm about to dive into one in the WIP. I'm not exactly looking forward to it but I think it will be ok. I'm planning to make it tasteful but it can't just be the "turn off the lights and shut the door and skip to the next chapter" kinda scene. It's important that the reader knows what happens when Jack and Ashley get it on. So... it's gonna be interesting to tackle.

Congrats on your swag! That's somethin' serious, yo! :)

Congrats on the awards and the gift card! That's really awesome.

Yay for the awards and new wolfpack members!!

Dude, you quoted Snow Patrol? OMG, FORGET THE SEX SCENES YOU QUOTED CHASING CARS! SQUEEEE! Excuse me while I dance around happily *dances* Sorry, but Snow Patrol are my life so when somebody quotes them I feel like it is an EPIC WIN for the world :~D

Ok, I'll reel it back in now. Sex scenes are fine if the story needs it. I don't write anything explicit but if the story needs it I don't see why it should be censored out :~)

(I'm sorry but in my head I'm still squeeeeing (word?) here. You made my day dearest :~D )

Dear Lola,

I like sex, and I'm not afraid to admit it. I like to read erotica, and I like to write erotica. I also like to depict sexual acts in my novels. I just like sex, okay?

PS: Totally watched The Hangover last night, and it was just as awesome the 2nd time around. :-)

Congrats on surpassing 200 followers and on the awards! I've got to get some out too........

Sex in literature? I like it, in all its forms (especially when there's a...happy ending (no pun intended) A little sexual tension thrown into the mix does wonders for any character. Plus, having a romantic angle makes a story more authentic and approachable. I think, anyways!

Ooh, nice awards!!

Congrats on winning the contest, on 200 followers, and your awards!!! That says it -- you're downright awesome! :D

Congrats on your awards and followers, Lola!

I don't mind reading sex scenes. I like romantic sex scenes better than graphic scenes, though. I also like funny sex scenes like in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum. The voice and word choice is hilarious!

Kazzy said...

Who's the Awards Queen??? You! You are!

I would rather leave the steamy scenes out of my reading, but maybe that's just the prude in me.

Ann said...

Congratulations on all the awards!! My but that was a major haul of them. By the looks of it, they were all well deserved. Enjoyed reading your blog.

Congratulations on all your awards! And I love that Chasing Cars song. It's one of my favourites.

I like sex scenes! LOL. Just not in YA - I find that way disgusting.

Congrats on all your awards AND winning the contest!

Jaydee Morgan said...

Congrats on your awards and your win - that's so cool. As far as sex scenes, if they fit the novel, all is good. If it's just there for effect, well, it loses something for me.

Jemi Fraser said...

I don't mind well-written sex scenes at all. Ones that are clunky I just glaze over and skip. :)

Congrats on all those awards! Awesome :)

Damyanti said...

Fun blog!!

Congrats on your awards...
...and as to sex scenes, I like them when they are relevant and well-written. Not when they are not.

Damyanti said...

Also, would you consider changing to the comment form from this one to the one where there is a pop-up?
My comments on this one just wouldn't save, I had to do tons of research and figured out that it doesn't work with Firefox...does with Safari.

Only if it is not a huge stress, lol :D...just that I love your blog and would like to comment often....and my default browser is Firefox!

I saw you won Roxy's contest. Congratulations!

I never saw the Laughing Raptor Award. You've been piling up the awards, haven't you? Congrats!

Alyson said...

Congrats on all the awards and followers! I don't mind reading sex scenes as long as they are consistent with the tone of the story.

Cheeseboy said...

A laughing raptor award sounds like the coolest award ever.

Simon C. Larter said...

Well, that's fixed, at any rate. Following now, tardily. Several things re: the post.

1. Nice Snow Patrol quote. Love that song. (It's not symphonic metal, but, y'know, not everything can be.)

2. I'll totally write sex scenes if the WIP demands it, but I prefer to be oblique about it, and would never, ever use the word "throbbing." Ever.

3. Poetic license sounds better when you say it in Latin.

I think that's all for now.

Cheerio!

Yvonne Osborne said...

Congrats on all your awesome awards. Wow!

I love well written sex scenes in novels. Most of my favs have at least one, or at the very least a little heat.

Lola Sharp said...

Damyanti--I switched it to a pop up. :)

What a bunch of love going on here! Things are going well for you.

Congrats for the awesome awards!!!
I´m looking for blog buddy mehself, its so cuteee!!!

The Alliterative Allomorph said...

Congrats on the awards! I've let myself get so behind on them too :( RE sex scenes, well, hmm ... let's see ... why would I NOT write any?

India Drummond said...

One of the reasons I started writing smut was because I had determined to get good at writing sex scenes. I found, once I got over myself, that it's really wonderfully fun to do!

Joanne Brothwell said...

Congrats on all the awards!

I love writing sex scenes - I just have a problem scaling them back sometimes!

Carolyn V. said...

Congrats on all the awards! Sweet! BTW, I need Abe to point at me and tell me I'm awesome everyday. He cracks me up. =)

Matthew said...

Thanks for dropping in earlier. :)

Writing sex scenes... I did one once. It was tasteful, graphic and intense (or so my ego assures me) and at the end, I felt like I should be apologising to everyone I knew.

Weirdest thing.

Rebecca @ Diary of a Virgin Novelist said...

There is nothing more delicious than a perfect - and I mean perfect - sex scene.

TechnoBabe said...

This post is full to brim with news and awards. Congrats on all the worthy awards bestowed upon your lovely blog.

foldingfields said...

I like sex scenes in movies (eek), but in novels, I like a lot left to my imagination. Kissing is the sexiest thing, but don't go into detail about all the slobber and tongues. I can picture it exactly how I want it!

Elana Johnson said...

Wow! You are awesome! Awards and a $50 gift card??? Can I touch you? No? Dangitall. :)

paulgreci said...

Congrats on all the awards! If a sex scene, like any other scene, is part of the story and not just stuck in to generate interest then that's fine. And I think it depends on the style of writing and tone of the story as to how much is left to the imagination.

Belle said...

Congratulations on the awards! I like well-written sex scenes which have a purpose in a story but I've never written one myself (probably because I write mysteries and middle-grade fiction!).

Christopher said...

I'm a huge fan of sex in literature (as in real life), especially when its unexpected and even when it isn't graphic. It just makes the book that much more exciting and adds a touch of naughtiness to the characters.

Guinevere said...

I love that song (it's a karaoke favorite for me, since I have a mannish singing voice).

I have mixed feelings on sex scenes in books. fine if they're necessary and develop the story, but as much as I LOVE sex, I feel it's... private. But I do love the sexy buildup and romantic tension in a story!

Palindrome said...

Hmmm...I've read so many. ;)

I just prefer the sex scenes to be real and necessary to furthering the plot.

Yay for awards!! And look at you with your giant wolf pack!

And I'm so glad you have the pop-up comment box! I can now comment on your posts at work and on the go...which is where I am all the time. :)

Portia said...

Still laughing over the humpday comment :-) Congrats on winning the contest!

I agree with you. I like organic love scenes that add to the story. It reminds me of a story about the movie Predator. I heard ole Arnold refused to do a sex scene in that movie because he thought a guy on the run from a dangerous predator wouldn't stop for a little jungle nookie.
