Critique Group Update...

Hello Friends-

Happy Friday!

First, THANK YOU for the wonderful, overwhelming response to my critique group request!!
As of this hour I have received over 80 emails! I am honored and deeply grateful.

I have chosen our kickass critique group, and we are full (overflowing!) to (beyond) capacity

(They are some badass writers, and I am excited to be part of their journey!)

Thank you so much for all the offers.
(If I have not responded to your email, I am working on it. I will get back to you individually.)

This tells me that a LOT of you are looking for critique partners!! For those of you that emailed me, may I suggest you make a similar post and form a group...there will be plenty of takers! (Choose carefully.)
You will get the best results out of your writer's group if they're a similar level of talent and dedication as you. If you are working with a group of hobbyists, or someone who is just starting out, and you want to pursue writing as your professional career, you are probably not going to be challenged and constructively critiqued enough to improve. If you are lucky enough to pull together a really great group, as I know I am, take advantage of it!

Love,
Lola

That's great that you garnered so much interest in a crit group. I've been with the same group for 3 years now & they really keep me moving forward. I owe so much to them.

Sooo glad you found a good group. They're hard to come by. If anyone needs a little help linking, I'd be happy to help make love connections via my blog as well.

Congrats on getting your C-Team together. (Remember, there is no plan D.) I have a writing partner here in Greenville, but would like to participate in an online crit group once my WIP is finished. You can never go wrong with extra pairs of eyes to read over your work.

Have a fantastic weekend. :)

This is a good idea. I may have to look into starting my own.

Critique groups are very important. And you make excellent points about what each memeber should be. Otherwise, it may just fall apart. Good luck to you and your new group members!

Awesome! I owe my entire published career in large part to my fabo CPs. May your group be just as successful!

So true, having just the right crit partner, reader, really puts that special shine on a manuscript.

Woohoo, good for you. I have two groups that I go to one is a writing group and the other a critique group and they are both great and have done so much for my writing. I'm sure you will be in good company.

What a cool idea for gaining new crit partners. You definitely want to be careful with who you pick. I've been in groups were half the writers lacked good writing skills. I spend five hours one day editing one guy's chapter. Never. Again.

Jon Paul said...

Wait! Is that cat...? No it couldn't be! It's CAT NORRIS!!!

Lola Sharp said...

Why, yes, JP, I believe it IS Cat Norris!

(well played--you slay me! :)

Good tips on how to have a successful critique group. The dog and cat photo scares me.

Lola, that's great! I was thinking about using my blog to find myself a crit group as I'm afraid my current live one will be put off by some of the language and scenarios that arise later on in my book. I'm glad to know it worked out so well for you and have hopes it will work the same for me. I have an award for you on my blog.

Hello! Good luck with your crit group. What a great idea, I hope it works very well for you!

Wow,that's great that you got so much response! I have thought about starting a group myself, but I have struggled in the past with what you talked about... different authors having differing levels of commitment and interest, and that can't always be judged up front.

Elliot Grace said...

...good for you on a brilliant idea Lola:) Currently buried in edit/hell at the moment with a ticking clock at my bedside. (The not-so-fun part of writing.) Oh, and as for the Ninja-Puss action photo...I think perhaps you've unveiled the new Dragon Warrior...stand down, Jack Black:)

Congrats SO MUCH for this working! I was SO TEMPTED, and totally would have contacted you had I not had a writer's group already with plenty going on. I wish all of you the best!

Congrats on getting the crit group going! It's truly a marvelous thing. I'd be lost without my crit partners.
